BOOK EXCERPT:

Margaret McCarter is the leader of the pack in a motorcycle club that joins Ron Mason's caravan to Daytona, the biggest motorcycle ride ever put together on the east coast. The ride brings together bikers from all over the northeast, including Ken O'Gara, a custom bike builder, farmer, and highly spiritual man whose abilities are wooed by the ride's organizers. The ride to Daytona becomes a saga of intrigue and murder when Ron's riders are threatened by the bizarre convictions of the members of Margaret's club who seek to take care of their own needs first. And their needs require them to maim and kill at random. The ride becomes a battle of survival in which the skills of motorcycle riding and the sanity of the bikers is tested to the limit. But the worst confrontation occurs when Ken O'Gara and Robin McManus, one of Margaret's female riders, fall in love. Margaret is not willing to let Robin go and she gets into a tug of war with Ken. The contest develops into a deadly battle, a battle in which Ken seems at a high disadvantage when Margaret and her club unleash all of their strange powers against him and stop at nothing to win Robin back. The drama intensifies even more when Margaret's past is revealed through the intervention of Robin's mother and best friend, Helen McManus. Undaunted, Margaret shoots back by disclosing the shocking truth about Robin's own roots. Rainy Faces is a story about more than just riders. It is an absorbing novel of twisted fate and drama to the very end. A must read for bikers.

Rainy Night To Die

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The author takes you on a frightening journey to the coast of Ukraine where, as one reviewer says, " I can’t say enough about Pirtle’s brilliant style of writing and his ability to give readers a no holds barred action thriller!" A man on the run never knows what will happen next. He lives and survives on his instincts, and he can't always trust them. Roland Sand's missions for intelligence agencies are those no one else wants to tackle. The reason is simple. Sand is expendable. If he doesn’t return, he won’t be missed. His name is erased. It’s as though he never existed. Sand is sent to Ukraine to smuggle out a beautiful lounge jazz singer who, for years, has been smuggling Russian secrets back to MI-6’s home office in Great Britain. Her contact in London has been compromised. He is found floating in the Thames River. Sand must extricate Pauline Bellerose before the Russians trace the stolen secrets back to her and place a noose around her neck. He has twenty-four hours to find the singer and remove her to safety. If she is caught, he dies. A ship is waiting in the fog off the coast of Odessa. Time is running out. He must reach the ship at the appointed hour, or it will leave without them. In the secret world of espionage, the window of escape is narrow and closing all the time. The midnight storm is the only place to hide. The Russians are waiting on the road to the sea. Sand can’t outrun them. He can’t outfight them. He must outwit them. Otherwise, he’s trapped, and it’s a rainy night to die.

Faces

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

"Mohamed Choukri (1935-2003) is one of the most important writers of modern Moroccan literature. Illiterate until the age of 20, he grew up speaking darijah, the spoken dialect of Moroccan Arabic, and spent his childhood in extreme poverty in Tangiers. After learning to read, he wrote works that changed modern Arab literature. His works include characters based on people he knew who lived in worlds rarely featured in literature. At the same time, he connected with the writers Paul Bowles (an early translator), Tennessee Williams, and Jean Genet, among many others. Faces, published in Arabic in 1996 and never before translated into English, is the third in his most famous trilogy, weaving together autobiography and fiction. His novel invites the reader to experience the places and events of his life through the eyes of a local, and paints a picture of daily life for all kinds of people. Like in life, he describes gritty events; abject poverty, prostitution, violence, sexual revelry, deprivation, and abuse almost casually. It is through these topics and his storytelling style that Choukri reflects on human nature, love, and kindness. He elevates and humanizes those undergoing poverty, places the blame for the violence they undergo squarely on colonial forces and then the resulting postcolonial government, and emphasizes the importance of community and collaboration. "I saw that writing could also be a way to expose, to protest against those who have stolen my childhood, my teenage-hood and a piece of my youthfulness," said Choukri. "At that moment, my writing became committed." His vivid portrayals of marginalized people, considered a taboo, led to censorship from 1983 to 2000 and a cultural backlash in the Arab world, which resulted in Faces being published late and not being translated before his death. Elbousty's elegant translation stays faithful to Choukri's writing and promises to remind readers of his importance and to bring him attention not just in Morocco but in discussions of contemporary Arab literature around the globe"--

The Rainy Season, a work of engaging literary journalism, introduces readers to the remote bushveld community of Rooiboklaagte and opens a window into the complicated reality of daily life in South Africa. This multi-threaded narrative follows Regina, a tapestry weaver in her sixties, standing at the crossroads where her Catholic faith and the AIDS pandemic crash; Thoko, a middle-aged sangoma (traditional healer) taking steps to turn her shebeen into a fully licensed tavern; and Dankie, a young man taking his matriculation exams, coming of age as one of Mandela's Children, the first academic class educated entirely under democratic governance.
