Light Weight Experience Collection In Distributed Software Engineering

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Nowadays, distributed software development has become more common. In a distributed project setting, managing experience is even more crucial than in a co-located project. Problems like ineffective communication, lack of awareness and trust and restrictive information flow policies impede experience exchange and raise the overall effort for software engineers to collaborate. Moreover, sharing experiences is usually not part of the development process and considered additional effort. This often leads to failure of the experience management initiative due to a lack of participation. This thesis proposes a framework for qualitative and quantitative assessment of light-weight experience collection. Light-weight methods primarily aim at lowering the perceived effort and return a reasonable benefit to the experience bearers. This thesis proposes characterizing criteria of light-weight experience collection and a measurement system to measure gradations of expected effort and benefit of an experience collection method. To support knowledge managers in choosing the appropriate collection method, this thesis provides a catalogue of strategies from different categories and areas of application in distributed development projects.

The Francine Rivers Contemporary Collection Leota S Garden And The Shofar Blew

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This collection bundles two contemporary Christian novels by the New York Times bestselling author of Redeeming Love and The Masterpiece. Leota’s Garden plus And the Shofar Blew are combined into one e-book for a great value! Leota’s Garden: “An emotionally compelling story” (Library Journal) about the devastation secrets can unleash on a family and the power of grace to bring second chances. Leota’s garden was once a place of beauty, where flowers bloomed and hope thrived. Now, eighty-four-year-old Leota Reinhardt is alone, her beloved garden in ruins. All her efforts to reconcile with her adult children have been fruitless, and she voices her despair to a loving Father, her only friend. Then God brings a wind of change through unlikely means. “Rivers is a master gardener . . . using poignant humor and bittersweet revelation to open hearts to reconciliation.” —Romantic Times And the Shofar Blew: He seemed like the perfect pastor to lead Centerville Christian Church. She was the perfect pastor’s wife. When Paul Hudson accepted the call to pastor the struggling church, he had no idea what to expect. But it didn’t take long for Paul to turn Centerville Christian Church around. Attendance was up-way up. Everything was going so well. If only his wife could see it that way. Still, he tried not to let her quiet presence disturb him. She knew something wasn’t right, and it hadn’t been for a long time. . . . Eunice closed the bedroom door quietly and knelt beside her bed. “I’m drowning, God. I’ve never felt so alone. Who can I turn to but you, Lord? Where else does a pastor’s wife go for help when her marriage is failing and her life is out of control? Who can I trust with my anguish, Lord? Who but you?” “This book is a powerful and almost-prophetic statement of the church in America. . . . And the Shofar Blew is a must-read.” —Anne Graham Lotz, bestselling author and speaker

Dancer In The Garden The Complete Collection With 18 Additional True Stories

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Kra uses storytelling to connect medicine with the human condition, resulting in tales of love and loss, triumph, and disillusionment. From post-war France and Switzerland to a modern private cardiology practice and the teaching hospitals at Yale, Kra diagnoses rare diseases, falls in love, and even survives a plane crash on a frozen lake. An exploration of the Golden Age of Medicine coupled with vivid moments of unusual, captivating stories with a cast of compelling characters. Now with 18 engaging, delightful, interesting, and surprising additional stories, most never before published. “I take care of people’s hearts so they can go on loving. I can think of no greater privilege.” "Kra came to America in 1938 as a boy when his family fled the Nazis. After working his way through CCNY, he found himself blackballed by U.S. med schools in the 1950s because he’d been marked as an agitator, so he went to Europe to study medicine in France and Switzerland. One of the best and most moving pieces here dates back to his med student days in Switzerland, where he lost his heart to a beautiful young dancer, a tb patient in a sanatorium high in the Swiss Alps (“Gabrielle’s Dance”)…. I suspect Siegfried Kra must have been a damn good doctor. And, after reading DANCER IN THE GARDEN, I know he’s a good storyteller too. Kudos to Pleasure Boat Studio publisher for printing this lively collection. Very highly recommended.” -TimBazzett, Librarything
