Intelligence Testing and Minority Students offers the reader a fresh opportunity to re-learn and re-consider the implications of intelligence testing. Richard R. Valencia and Lisa A. Suzuki discuss the strengths and limitations of IQ testing relative to the factors which may contribute to biased results. They review the history of the adaptation and adoption of intelligence testing; evaluate the heredity-environment debate; discuss the specific performance factors which apply to IQ testing of those in minority ethnic groups. This practical book offers the practitioner a good sense of what can be done to make testing and education serve the needs of all students fairly and validly, whatever their background.

Everything I knew was a lie. But I must embrace my destiny. The winter queen’s reveal has left me reeling, connecting the dots of my missing memories, my startling resemblance to Queen Carys, and my inexplicable bond with the deadly water horses. Yet, as fate would have it, I find myself once again barred from Faerie, this time with… Carys. While her struggles in the human realm provide a twisted amusement, I must return to Faerie. There are questions that demand answers: Is Sterling still held captive by the winter queen? Does Tien, the fae I love, still draw breath? And can I find a way to save a dying Faerie, teetering on the edge of oblivion? The stakes have never been higher. The fate of an entire realm rests in my hands, but the journey is fraught with frustrations, startling twists, and unexpected alliances. ◆Becoming a Fae Queen is perfect for fans of The Iron King and The Vampire Diaries. Aria Whisk has a cute boyfriend, amazing foster parents... and some missing memories. But she's happy. When Aria’s boyfriend’s brother, Tien (who happens to be a powerful fae captain) notices that she resembles their missing queen—like… an uncanny likeness—he asks her to travel through the portal to Faerie to save his precious Raven Court. Going to Faerie sounds about as fun as taking her midterms. Both make her stomach churn. She politely declines, but Tien, being the diligent fae captain he is, won’t take no for an answer and kidnaps her. Tien promises Aria’s captivity will be temporary if she can convince the kingdom she is their beloved queen, alive and well. But faeries aren’t all wings and pixie dust. Some lure you into their mounds to make you their dinner. Some want to drown you before they eat you. And some give you reasons that make you want to stay forever. Even if she succeeds at being a royal, Aria might never make it back home. ◆Imitating a Fae Queen is perfect for fans of The Iron King and The Vampire Diaries. If you love brooding fae captains, terrifying water horses, and best-friend romance, you’ll love this page-turning fae fantasy. ◆Imitating a Fae Queen is Book One in the Raven Court Series by USA Today bestselling author, Joanna Reeder.

Lynn and Vanhanen test the hypothesis on the causal relationship between the average national intelligence (IQ) and the gap between rich and poor countries by empirical evidence. Based on an extensive survey of national IQ tests, the results of their work challenge the previous theories of economic development and provide a new basis to evaluate the prospects of economic development throughout the world. They begin by reviewing and evaluating some major previous theories. The concept of intelligence is then described and intelligence quotient (IQ) introduced. Next they show that intelligence is a significant determinant of earnings within nations, and they connect intelligence with various economic and social phenomena. The sociology of intelligence at the level of sub-populations in nations is examined, and the independent (national IQ) and dependent (various measures of per capita income and economic growth rates) variables are defined and described. They then provide empirical analyses starting from the 81 countries for which direct evidence of national IQs is available; the analysis is then extended to the world group of 185 countries. The hypothesis is tested by the methods of correlation and regression analyses. The results of statistical analyses support the hypothesis strongly. The results of the analyses and various means to reduce the gap between rich and poor countries are discussed. A provocative analysis that all scholars, students, and researchers involved with economic development need to confront.
