Receptors In The Human Nervous System

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Receptors in the Human Nervous System is a synthesis of the results of receptor mapping by leaders in the field. In addition to a comprehensive discussion of the distribution and possible interactions of the receptors of different neuroactive substances, this book also contains an abundance of pictorial representations of receptor distributions. High-quality photographs of one receptor are often juxtaposed with photographs of the distribution of a different receptor or receptor subtype for the consideration of possible interactions between different systems. The book surveys the distribution of receptor subtypes for the classical monoamine transmitters (acetylcholine, adrenaline, noradrenaline and serotonin) as well as the distribution of receptors for the excitatory and inhibitory amino acids, (glutamate, GABA and benzodiazepines) as well as the opioid peptides, angiotensen and other neuropeptides. The distribution of multiple types of serotonin receptors is given in detail, and the codistribution of receptors in the cortex is discussed. The book is directed toward researchers in the field of chemical neuroanatomy, as well as pharmacologists, neurophysiologists, and neuroscientists.

BOOK EXCERPT:

The previous two editions of the Human Nervous System have been the standard reference for the anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous system of the human. The work has attracted nearly 2,000 citations, demonstrating that it has a major influence in the field of neuroscience. The 3e is a complete and updated revision, with new chapters covering genes and anatomy, gene expression studies, and glia cells. The book continues to be an excellent companion to the Atlas of the Human Brain, and a common nomenclature throughout the book is enforced. Physiological data, functional concepts, and correlates to the neuroanatomy of the major model systems (rat and mouse) as well as brain function round out the new edition. - Adopts standard nomenclature following the new scheme by Paxinos, Watson, and Puelles and aligned with the Mai et al. Atlas of the Human Brain (new edition in 2007) - Full color throughout with many new and significantly enhanced illustrations - Provides essential reference information for users in conjunction with brain atlases for the identification of brain structures, the connectivity between different areas, and to evaluate data collected in anatomical, physiological, pharmacological, behavioral, and imaging studies

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book is a concise and practical compendium of neuropathological information for all professionals whose responsibility it is to make diagnoses, care, and help elderly humans afflicted with neurological and/or psychiatric disorders. The term neuropathology includes a multitude of disciplines including pathology, histology, genetics, immunology, biochemistry, radiology, etc. This disciplinary approach is reflected in this book. This new edition has been completely revised and brought up to date from the 20th to the 21st century. Basic neuroscientists were invited to contribute chapters explaining and describing basic scientific principles underlying the neuropathological disciplines. Also, additional information is provided concerning medic-legal issues, neuropharmacology, and a list of support groups for the elderly neurologically or mentally impaired in Brazil, Canada, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the USA.

Cannabis Spain S Seven Sins

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Cannabis, or hemp, being just a plant, is illegal in Spain: its use, possession and trade can be punished with prison sentences. Is that because of health reasons, because cannabis can be harmful? This essay will demonstrate that that is not the reason. Is cannabis illegal because it’s addictive? Because it’s psychoactive? Because it’s a drug? Again, no, and this essay will unveil why cannabis constitutes one of the most important crops for humanity, and the actual reasons that lead to its criminalisation. More than 250 million people in the world used drugs in 2018, according to the UN World Report on Drugs. Of all of them, the most popular is cannabis. In Spain, according to the 2020 European Drug Report, in the year 2017, more than five and a half million people used illegal drugs; beyond that year, the number of adults admitting to having used illegal drugs at least once in their lives reaches 35%, some 16 million people. These figures are a cause of concern for an ample spectrum of society, which link drug use to severe damages to physical and mental health and personal relations, economic ruin, and, ultimately, death. This essay primarily focuses on the history and legal status of cannabis in Spain, but the majority of facts and conclusions could be extrapolated to other drugs and countries, and it’s based on the latest scientific and medical research and statistics; but, above all, this essay unveils a conspiracy whose consequences negatively impact the general public in Spain, in a number of different aspects ranging from health, to politics, to corruption, to the economy, to the media, and to the rights enshrined in the Spanish Constitution of 1978.
