Wegen der zahlreichen Kriege und Konflikte in diesem Raum sind weitere Bände geplant. Im vorliegenden Band geht es um Flüchtlinge und ihre vielfältigen Bedürfnisse nach Versöhnung mit sich selbst und anderen. Insbesondere Gefühle von Trauer und Schuld wegen des Zurücklassens der Heimat und von Teilen der Familie, schlimme Erlebnisse auf der Flucht, Konflikte mit anderen Flüchtlingen und mit Einheimischen, der Verlust eines großen Teils dessen, was dem Leben Sinn und Bedeutung verlieh, und die Schwierigkeiten einer Rückkehr in ein verändertes Land, eine Heimat, die sich vielleicht nicht mehr wie eine Heimat anfühlt, sind die einzelnen Facetten dieses Bedürfnisses nach Versöhnung. Aktivitäten der UN, von internationalen Organisationen zur Flüchtlingshilfe, von staatlichen Stellen, von Kommunen, NGOs, religiösen und humanitären Organisationen werden in diesem Buch dargestellt. Dabei kommen zahlreiche Forscherinnen und Forscher aus den Ländern der MENA-Region zu Wort. Sie beschreiben nicht nur gelungene Aktivitäten, sondern auch Schwierigkeiten zahlreicher Gesellschaften in der MENA-Region, die ursprünglich gastfreundliche Haltung zu den Flüchtlingen aufrechtzuerhalten. Ähnlich wie in Deutschland lassen sich letztlich absteigende Kurven der Akzeptanz der Flüchtlinge auch für Länder wie Jordanien, der Türkei oder den Libanon zeichnen. Das Buch führt aber auch vor Augen, wie große Aufgaben diese Länder durch die Flüchtlingsströme zu bewältigen haben und was auch an Anstrengungen unternommen worden ist. Neben Autorinnen und Autoren aus Marokko, Libyen, Ägypten, den Palästinensergebieten, Jordanien, dem Libanon und der Türkei, enthält der Band auch Texte aus deutscher, griechischer, italienischer und US-amerikanischer Sicht. This edited volume examines the group dynamics of social reconciliation in conflict-affected societies by adopting ideas developed in social psychology and the everyday peace discourse in peace and conflict studies. The book revisits the intra- and inter-group dynamics of social reconciliation in conflict-affected societies, which have been largely marginalised in mainstream peacebuilding debates. By applying social psychological perspectives and the discourse of everyday peace, the chapters explore the everyday experience of community actors engaged in social and political reconciliation. Of the over 33 million refugees and internally displaced people in the world today, a disproportionate percentage are found in Africa. Most have been driven from their homes by armed strife, displacing people into settings that fail to meet standards for even basic human dignity. Protection of the human rights of these people is highly uncertain and unpredictable. Many refugee service agencies agree advocacy on behalf of the displaced is a key aspect of their task. But those working in the field are so pressed by urgent crises that they can rarely analyze the requirements of advocacy systematically. Yet advocacy must go beyond international law to human rights as an ethical standard to prevent displaced people from falling through the cracks of our conflicted world. Refugee Rights: Ethics, Advocacy, and Africa draws upon David Hollenbach, SJ's work as founder and director of the Center for Human Rights and International Justice at Boston College to provide an analytical framework for vigorous advocacy on behalf of refugees and internally displaced people. This book provides essential background information on the protracted displacement of several ethnic groups along the Thai-Myanmar border before turning to an examination of whether Myanmar has now shifted into a post-conflict society, the expected challenges involved in reintegrating returnees to Myanmar, and the possibility of voluntary and sustainable repatriation. The authors conclude that, given the current, ongoing security challenges and the lack of job opportunities in Myanmar, voluntary repatriation is not yet feasible as a long-term solution. After more than 60 years of conflict and displacement, Myanmar is now in the midst of political reform. A new nominally civilian government and the promise of elections in 2015 have raised hopes of a lasting democratic transition after years of military rule. For the first time in decades, repatriation of refugees in Thailand is being discussed as a real and imminent possibility.

The repatriation of Palestinians is a highly topical issue, and a critical component of any future peace process for Israel/Palestine. Claims to land and territory are often a cause of conflict, and land issues present some of the most contentious problems for post-conflict peacebuilding. Among the land-related problems that emerge during and after conflict are the exploitation of land-based resources in the absence of authority, the disintegration of property rights and institutions, the territorial effect of battlefield gains and losses, and population displacement. In the wake of violent conflict, reconstitution of a viable land-rights system is crucial: an effective post-conflict land policy can foster economic recovery, help restore the rule of law, and strengthen political stability. But the reestablishment of land ownership, land use, and access rights for individuals and communities is often complicated and problematic, and poor land policies can lead to renewed tensions. In twenty-one chapters by twenty-five authors, this book considers experiences with, and approaches to, post-conflict land issues in seventeen countries and in varied social and geographic settings. Highlighting key concepts that are important for understanding how to address land rights in the wake of armed conflict, the book provides a theoretical and practical framework for policy makers, researchers, practitioners, and students.
