This book will approach the Reformation from the perspective on last year's Spring Harvest theme, 'One in Christ', and therefore look not at how or why the church split, or whether the church should have split, but from the perspective that the church cannot split because it is Christ's one body. From this basis, the book will explore themes of Christianity such as the church, attitude to scripture and faith, belief, grace and works seeking wisdom from each of the incarnations of the church that resulted from the disagreements of the sixteenth century.

Is knowledge of right and wrong written on the human heart? Do people know God from the world around them? Does natural knowledge contribute to Christian doctrine? While these questions of natural theology and natural law have historically been part of theological reflection, the radical reliance of twentieth-century Protestant theologians on revelation has eclipsed this historic connection. Stephen Grabill attempts the treacherous task of reintegrating Reformed Protestant theology with natural law by appealing to Reformation-era theologians such as John Calvin, Peter Martyr Vermigli, Johannes Althusius, and Francis Turretin, who carried over and refined the traditional understanding of this key doctrine. Rediscovering the Natural Law in Reformed Theological Ethics calls Christian ethicists, theologians, and laypersons to take another look at this vital element in the history of Christian ethical thought.

What does faithfulness mean for modern Christians who find themselves immersed in a social and moral context two millennia removed from that of Jesus? For the Spirit, being somewhat forgotten is an occupational hazard. The Holy Spirit is so actively involved in our lives that we can take his presence for granted. As they say, familiarity breeds contempt. Just as we take breathing for granted, we can take the Holy Spirit for granted simply because we constantly depend on him. Many studies have considered the Bible’s relationship to politics, but almost all have ignored the heart of its narrative and theology: the covenant. In this book, Glenn Moots explores the political meaning of covenants past and present by focusing on the theory and application of covenantal politics from the sixteenth through the eighteenth centuries. Moots demands that we revisit political theology because it served as the most important school of politics in early modern Europe and America. He describes the strengths of the covenant tradition while also presenting its limitations and dangers. Contemporary political scientists such as Eric Voegelin, Daniel Elazar, and David Novak are called on to provide insight into both the covenant’s history and its relevance today. Moots’s work chronicles and critiques the covenant tradition while warning against both political ideology and religious enthusiasm. In this book, Guinevere Liberty Nell visits this historical laboratory of social science to study the lessons in basic economics that it teaches. Nell observes that the founders of the Soviet experiment, Lenin and other Bolshevik leaders, wrote volumes of articles and books on Marxist theory and then proceeded to enact the very policies that they promised. Therefore the Soviet experiment provides an ideal lens through which to view the consequences of various interpretations of economic theories and Marxist theories. However, despite the wealth of information available on the Soviet experiment, few writers have closely analyzed this historical process and what lessons it might offer for market economies. In this book, Nell carefully considers Soviet theory and practice, and draws out the lessons that Soviet planners learned. Each chapter considers one theory; the experience in the Soviet Union of policies based on this theory, and the reforms that planners implemented as the system evolved as well as in response to changes in the local and international conditions; and the lessons for market economies that this experience offers. Nell's lessons capture the dynamic nature of the economy and illustrate insights from the debate between socialists and Austrian economists.
