Reformed Baptist Covenant Theology

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

God's covenants form the backbone of the Scriptures. Understanding these covenants is the key to unlocking the treasures that lay therein. This book will enable the reader, not only to appreciate redemptive history, but to understand more fully his/her position in Christ. Griffiths demonstrates the essential fact that there has always been one Church, one way of salvation, and that all have been, are being, and will be saved only through faith in Christ. Griffiths eschews the Presbyterian paradigm which believes the Abrahamic, Mosaic, and Davidic covenants to be of the same substance as the new covenant, only differing in regard to their administration. Replacing it with essential truth that the new covenant, which is the outworking of the eternal covenant of redemption in time, is the only covenant of grace. Both Old and New Testament believers come under the mediatorship of Christ and are members and recipients of new covenant blessings. The author shows how all other covenants, what he calls "subsidiary covenants," are of works, and that their function is to magnify the covenant of grace, i.e., the new covenant.

Covenant Theology

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

God has always dealt with his people through the covenant, yet covenant theology from a Baptist perspective is a teaching that is all too often neglected. Many Baptists don't know why they are Baptist. If questioned they are most likely to respond by alluding to the mode of baptism rather than its underlying theology. This book is easily accessible, providing the reader with a clear understanding of the historical Baptist position. The work points out the errors inherent in the Reformed paedobaptist paradigm, and seeks to show that the only covenant of grace is the new covenant in Christ.

Journal Of Biblical And Theological Studies Issue 4 2

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Journal of Biblical and Theological Studies (JBTS) is an academic journal focused on the fields of Bible and Theology from an inter-denominational point of view. The journal is comprised of an editorial board of scholars that represent several academic institutions throughout the world. JBTS is concerned with presenting high-level original scholarship in an approachable way. Academic journals are often written by scholars for other scholars. They are technical in nature, assuming a robust knowledge of the field. There are fewer journals that seek to introduce biblical and theological scholarship that is also accessible to students. JBTS seeks to provide high-level scholarship and research to both scholars and students, which results in original scholarship that is readable and accessible. As an inter-denominational journal JBTS is broadly evangelical. We accept contributions in all theological disciplines from any evangelical perspective. In particular, we encourage articles and book reviews within the fields of Old Testament, New Testament, Biblical Theology, Church History, Systematic Theology, Practical Theology, Philosophical Theology, Philosophy, and Ethics.

The Reformed Apprentice A Workbook On Reformed Theology

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

There is nothing like this interactive workbook anywhere in the Reformed community. It is a unique workbook designed to bring Reformed Theology to students of the bible in its various facets. In old England, an apprentice is a novice who engaged in a covenant with a tradesman to learn a particular trade. A workbook of this kind was created to engage the student of scripture to be apprenticed under the teachers of Reformed Theology, thus, a Reformed Apprentice. The purpose of the workbook is to come into a deeper knowledge and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ as he has revealed himself to the church in his Word and by his Spirit through the centuries in Reformed Theology. The workbook covers logic, hermeneutics, theology, creeds and confessions, covenant theology, worship, the sovereignty of God, the solas of the reformation, the doctrines of grace, church government, and much, much more. It extensively quotes the early church fathers, the Reformers, the Puritans, and Reformed theologians from various ages in order to aid the Reformed Apprentice in coming to a knowledge of what truly constitutes Reformed Theology and the Reformed Faith. This workbook is not to be completed in a short timeframe, nor is it governed by a specific amount of time. The Reformed Apprentice has as much time to complete each section at their own pace as they need in order to walk more closely with Jesus Christ.

Christ Jesus The True Israel

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

What is the relationship between the nation of Israel, Jesus Christ, and the church? Pastors and theologians come to significantly different conclusions. The reigning systems of evangelical theology, covenant theology, and dispensationalism answer this question by stressing the continuity of the Israel-church relationship (covenant theology) or emphasizing discontinuity (dispensationalism). In more recent times, progressive covenantalism has emerged as a via media between these two theological approaches by providing a different proposal for unpacking the biblical covenants, and by highlighting that to rightly understand the people of God in biblical theology, the person of Jesus Christ must be the focal point. In Christ Jesus, the True Israel, Brent E. Parker presents the case for the importance of typology in this debate, arguing that national Israel is a type, not unlike other Old Testament types (e.g., the sacrificial system, the temple, etc.), that reaches its antitypical fulfillment in Jesus Christ. Moreover, the Israel-church relationship is also typological, but only through Christ. Parker demonstrates that the progressive covenantal approach is a viable system of theology that seeks to preserve what the whole Bible says regarding the people of God, from Israel to Christ and from Christ to the church.
