"TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Report 822: Evaluation and Assessment of Environmentally Sensitive Stream Bank Protection Measures evaluates and assesses existing guidelines for the design, installation, monitoring, and maintenance of environmentally sensitive stream bank stabilization and protection measures, and develops quantitative engineering design guidance for selected treatments. Updated design guidelines for three widely used treatments are presented: live siltation and live staking with a rock toe, vegetated mechanically stabilized earth, and vegetated rip rap. A compendium of field data, documentation, and photographs complement the report. Major Infrastructure links across water represent large investments. The structures and systems must be optimised to keep costs in control. Optimisation needs and the tendancy to more slender and light structures imply that engineering disciplines like Bridge Aerodynamics and Ship Collision Analysis have an increasing impact on the overall design of links. Also the attention to life cycle costs implies Operation and Maintenance must to investigated and planned in parallel to the design and construction of the links. The 1998 International Symposium aims at presenting state-of-the-art and future development within the three mentioned engineering disciplines. Exploring the many facets of major infrastructure projects, this symposium concentrated on developments within organisational, strategic and policy areas and both traffic and o & m management. TRB Special Report 256 - Managing Technology Transfer: A Strategy for the Federal Highway Administration addresses how the U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration selects research products for technology transfer and transfers those products to the highway industry, in particular the state and local agencies that own, operate, and maintain the nation’s highways.

Rising awareness of and increased attention to sexual harassment has resulted in momentum to implement sexual harassment prevention efforts in higher education institutions. Work on preventing sexual harassment is an area that has recently garnered a lot of attention, especially around education and programs that go beyond the standard anti-sexual harassment trainings often used to comply with legal requirements. On April 20-21, 2021, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine hosted the workshop Developing Evaluation Metrics for Sexual Harassment Prevention Efforts. The workshop explored approaches and strategies for evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of sexual harassment interventions being implemented at higher education institutions and research and training sites, in order to assist institutions in transforming promising ideas into evidence-based best practices. Workshop participants also addressed methods, metrics, and measures that could be used to evaluate sexual harassment prevention efforts that lead to change in the organizational climate and culture and/or a change in behavior among community members. This publication summarizes the presentations and discussion of the workshop.
