BOOK EXCERPT:
The back cover shows a man kneeling, hands raised to the Lord in victory. The picture depicts a simple man who has come through great trials and storms by the grace of God alone, a man who recognizes as humbly as he understands how that if it had not been for the grace of God, he would have given up a long time ago and would have self destructed. His favorite saying is “Getting there by the grace of God.”

BOOK EXCERPT:
Remote villages in Africa and Asia, a war-refugee village in Guatemala, war-ravaged muddy Sudan, squatters camps in South Africa, slums in India, rugged country in Bangladesh, a tsunami-torn community in Sri Lanka, sweltering in Vietnam, inside a jail in Laos, pulling teeth in a prison in Uganda, under a tree in Cambodia, and in a bamboo gazebo in Thailand—following Jesus is never boring. God’s compassion compels us to go to the poor and needy all over the world. Dr. Helen Laib made a commitment to follow Jesus into medical missions at age sixteen. This didn’t come into reality until thirty years later with her first medical mission to Vietnam. Helen is the founder and president of Circle of Love Foundation, a medical mission organization based in Rockford, Illinois. Helen has organized and led over 110 short-term medical trips to seventeen countries, serving over 112,000 people and resulting in 30,000 people making commitments to also follow Jesus. Helen has compiled her trip reports so that others can see how faithful God has been in every situation. He makes all things work out for good.

BOOK EXCERPT:
As the seat of Hitler's government, Berlin was the most frequently targeted city in Germany for Allied bombing campaigns during World War II. Air raids shelled celebrated monuments, left homes uninhabitable, and reduced much of the city to nothing but rubble. After the war's end, this apocalyptic landscape captured the imagination of artists, filmmakers, and writers, who used the ruins to engage with themes of alienation, disillusionment, and moral ambiguity. In Rubble Music, Abby Anderton explores the classical music culture of postwar Berlin, analyzing archival documents, period sources, and musical scores to identify the sound of civilian suffering after urban catastrophe. Anderton reveals how rubble functioned as a literal, figurative, psychological, and sonic element by examining the resonances of trauma heard in the German musical repertoire after 1945. With detailed explorations of reconstituted orchestral ensembles, opera companies, and radio stations, as well as analyses of performances and compositions that were beyond the reach of the Allied occupiers, Anderton demonstrates how German musicians worked through, cleared away, or built over the debris and devastation of the war.

At the young age of seventeen, Peter Castellano is forced to confront an unbearable reality since the only companion he could confide in, his father Ivan, has been killed in strange circumstances. In search of a new beginning, Peter, together with his mother Damaris, move to a remote villa, a villa previously owned by the son of the Collins, Edgar, a mysterious man with prophetic abilities. Every house has its story, but what lies hidden in this house is a mystery that pleads to be unravelled. As sudden curiosity to explore the dwelling grows, Peter, together with the girl he had always wished for, Stephanie, are lured beneath the villa where they make a remarkable discovery - a map of immense value. As the rush to get to the end of the trail heightens, they are led into a seemingly never-ending sequel of exploration, mystery and suspense when unexpectedly, they understand that the true motive behind the map's existence is its use as a guide and a tool to change the course of Edgar's premonition - a presentiment that sheds light on the mystery underlying Ivan's murder. But is it too late? While jealousy, rage and revenge prevent the couple from putting an end to the mystery behind the building of events, are they really prepared to face the truth that they unravel? And what really lies at the end of it all? Join this pulse-raising adventure packed with intrigue, and relish a new dimension of book experience in the making!

BOOK EXCERPT:
Traditional criticism on German post-war cinema tends to define rubble films as simplistic texts of low artistic quality which serve to reaffirm the spectator's image of him or herself as »a good German« during »bad times«. Yet this study asserts that some rubble films are actually informed by a type of visual and narrative Romantic discourse which aims at provoking a »critical discussion« on German national identity and its reconstruction in the aftermath of the Third Reich. Considering the lack of previous analyses with regard to the key aspects of Romantic visual style, narration and literary motifs in rubble films, this study points to a major gap in research.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Michael Catt, senior pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church and executive producer of hit films Facing the Giants and Fireproof, believes the word "revival" has been used in so many ways as to lose its meaning altogether. The Power of Surrender, his third book in the ReFRESH series (after The Power of Desperation and The Power of Persistence) reminds the church that "revival" really means (1) focusing on confession and cleansing, (2) making repentence and restoration a priority, and (3) walking in the fullness of the Holy Spirit and abiding in Christ. Surrender is the key to revival which is the key to spreading the gospel. Catt has witnessed the fruits of these disciplines at his congregation firsthand: "We are now seeing people walk through the baptismal waters. People are being saved. Members are inviting their lost friends and unchurched neighbors. Attendance shot up. Why? Revival produces evangelism."

In the Zionist view of Israeli history, the Old Yishuv of Jerusalem - the Jewish community of the 19th and early 20th centuries - was "a lifeless body ruled by hypocrites, cheats and unschooled rabbis", and its importance was downplayed and ignored in this study of the Old Yishuv, Dr Halper uncovers the personalities, issues, and events that formed
