Lt. Wayson Harris is one of thousands of clones born and bred to be the ultimate soldiers. But unlike the others, Harris is an outlawed model—one with independent thoughts and an addiction to violence. Presumed dead after his troops were massacred, Harris—who blames the U.A. for the slaughter—has gone AWOL as a bounty hunter. Still, it’s hard for a clone to overcome his conditioning, and Harris finds himself drawn back into the U.A.'s service by his mentor and creator, Fleet Admiral Bryce Klyber. Now, with separatists rebelling throughout the galaxy, the fate of the U.A. depends on Admiral Klyber’s plans for the Doctrinaire—the largest, most powerful battleship ever constructed. But there are those who would do anything to stop Klyber, and Harris must decide whether he should fight against them…or work for them.

BOOK EXCERPT:
It is a different world almost fantasy like, a dark fantasy. There are creatures thought to be myth by most that have come to be known as real. These creatures are vampires, werewolves, demons and a lot more things out there. Although calendars are not in heavy circulation, it should be a couple decades into the 31st century. There is no more society like I used to know. I was born in the year 1976. I am old but not immortal, at least I hope not

BOOK EXCERPT:
Two reformed scoundrels have renounced the battlefields and scandals for one another, but their troubled pasts could destroy everything they hold dear… New York, 1925 Cranky and jaded Lord Fine—Wesley, now, to the kindhearted lover he cynically doubts life will let him keep—arrives in Manhattan with one goal: find the American paranormals and get their help with the relic burdening Sebastian. His plans are upended when the other paranormals seem to have vanished, and a mysterious letter warns Wesley that he’s in danger. Sebastian has no doubts when it comes to his feelings for Wesley, but he’s still haunted by the time he spent enthralled by blood magic right here in New York. And now, his magic is unstable, bolstered by a relic that seems to drain energy from his very blood. But there is a threat to Wesley, and Sebastian needs control of his magic to protect him—even if former Great War captain Wesley wants Sebastian to rely on him for a change. Chasing a trail that leads from Fifth Avenue’s bootleggers to a Halloween masquerade at a Tarrytown mansion, they must race to find their friends before devastation is unleashed on New York—and on magic everywhere. BOOK EXCERPT:
Part of a generation that came to prominence in the 1860s, the ‘rogue architects’ are a byword for Victorian Gothic at its most wayward and flamboyant. Their work ranges from town halls to country houses and from hotels to churches. It has drawn much attention, both from contemporary observers and 20th century commentators, such as Harry Goodhart-Rendel (who coined the term), Ian Nairn and John Summerson. But much about the rogues’ architecture – its inspiration, their aims, why they built where and how they did and why it caused such a stir – has been poorly understood until now. Based on extensive primary research and presenting a lot of material never published before, this book presents comprehensive studies of three of rogue architecture’s most important exponents – Robert Lewis Roumieu, Joseph Peacock and Bassett Keeling. Their careers, although all very different, provide valuable insights into a rich and complex episode in British architectural history. These studies are prefaced by an introductory chapter, which places them in context and looks at the numerous other architects who stand comparison with them, not only throughout Britain but also in France and America. It is handsomely illustrated with new photographs and archive material, including drawings from the RIBA Collection.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The "rogue," a term that described criminals, prostitutes, vagrants, beggars, and the unemployed, dominated the pages of early modern popular crime literature. Rogue Sexuality resituates the rogue by focusing on how their menace—and their seductive appeal—emerged not only from their social marginality, but also from their supposedly excessive sexuality and prodigious sexual reproduction. Through discussions of both familiar and little-studied early modern works by William Shakespeare, John Milton, Ben Jonson, Thomas Middleton, Thomas Dekker, Robert Greene, Thomas Harman, and the inventor of modern demography John Graunt, this volume posits the sexualized rogue as the avatar of a new category of "socio-sexual identity" and traces a surprising social transposition, in which socio-political elites are portrayed as appropriating the rogue's sexual vitality and performative charisma to navigate moments of crisis. By tracking the movement of rogue sexuality from a criminal to a normative discursive register, this book challenges the distinctions that literary critics and historians tend to draw between orderly and disorderly sexuality. With its focus on reproduction, rogue sexuality also provides a new framework for what Michel Foucault called "biopolitics," the state's focus on exercising power over life. In legal, administrative, and scientific documents, this book shows that early modern writers grappled with popular pamphlets' rendering of the alleged threat of rogue reproduction. Rogue Sexuality thus offers a new approach to the political history of early modern England as a population—as a people whose aggregate sexual life and reproduction were a key part of its political imagination.
