BOOK EXCERPT:

The purpose of this book is to define and demonstrate how a multidisciplinary team can be organized, integrated, and utilized in the care of sarcoma patients. Real world experiences related by multiple sarcoma specialists working as members of a multidisciplinary team along with specific case examples highlighting sarcomas of bone and soft tissue in children and adults are presented in a framework geared toward practicing oncologists and surgeons in order to foster the creation and development of care teams for sarcoma patients. It is explained how a truly multidisciplinary approach, with “one stop shopping,” offers better standardization and delivery of care, streamlines patient education, facilitates discussions and decision making, and provides comprehensive support throughout the treatment process. All aspects of treatment are covered, from first-line treatments for different tumor types through to salvage therapy and the development of novel investigational agents. This book will be of benefit to all members of the medical community who have a role to play in the care of these complex patients, including therapists, nurses, mid-level practitioners, primary care doctors, and subspecialists.

Research On Kaposi S Sarcoma Associated Herpesvirus Past Present And Future

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

It has been 16 years since Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) was found from Kaposi's sarcoma. Very extensive studies on KSHV have been performed and we now know well that KSHV is actually the very etiologic agent to cause Kaposi's sarcoma, primary effusion lymphoma and multicentric Castleman's disease and this virus is an oncogenic DNA virus in such sense. Though a lot of reports have been published, there are lots of enigmas on its epidemiology, entry, lytic replication/induction, viral particle assembly/egress, latency, oncogenesis and so on. At this time point, it is better for us to review what we learned from the studies of this virus and consider what we have to clarify about this virus nature for future by comparing the virus with the other virus research.

July 2022 Sarcoma Awareness Month

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

July 2022 is Sarcoma Cancer Awareness Month and at Frontiers in Endocrinology we want to highlight the recent discoveries in the field and raise awareness of the importance of early diagnosis of these cancers. Sarcomas is the general term for rare kinds of cancer growing in the bone and connective tissues. These tumors can be divided into two main groups, soft tissue sarcomas, and bone sarcomas. Interestingly, a new kind of sarcoma has been recently described, called pseudoendocrine sarcoma. The most common tissues affected by this kinds of sarcoma are bones, muscles, tendons, cartilage, nerves, fat, and blood vessels of your arms and legs, as well as many endocrine organs. It affects mainly children, adolescents, and adults under the age of 30, and represents 1% to 2% of all cancers. Symptoms vary depending on the part of the body that is affected, and prompt therapies are primary for increasing the survival rate of the patients. Most of the treatments for this kinds of cancers may include chemotherapy, radiation therapy and surgery. Recently, hormonal therapy has revealed to be a great strategy for the treatment of some of these tumors, especially for uterine and endometrial stromal sarcomas.
