As Cyberface escapes from Beast Boy's care, The Dragon, Rapture, and She-Dragon battle the Dragon-Slayer, a robot sent to kill the Dragon by newspaper publisher R. Richard Richards, who maintains a personal hatred for the Dragon. Dragon defeats the Dragon-Slayer, arrests Richards, and returns home to find the Fiend waiting for him.

The Fiend impales and takes the Dragon to Debbie Harris' cemetery, while Overlord puts down attempts on his life, and the Police learn of Frank Darling's defeat of Skullface. The Dragon is attacked by many corpses brought to life by the Fiend, including that of Debbie Harris.

Dragon tries to escape his cell under the Gladiatorial arena, but he's beaten by a creature named Droog. Dragon eventually is put in to the Arena of Death to fight for his life.

The Dragon is badly beaten by the Fiend, who escapes. The Dragon is hospitalized, but then rescues the captive Howard Niseman from the strange Octopus creature, who has been holding Cyberface captive. Overlord prepares for war.

The Police, Freak Force, Underground Freaks, and the villainous Octopus attack Cyberface and the Vicious Circle at a downtown public rally they are holding, where they have crucified the captive Dragon.

After the Dragon uses a Martian shrinking ray on the entire Vicious Circle, and after William Johnson visits his vengeful brother Edgar in jail, Octopus reveals to Powerhouse that he has put Cyberface's head inside Brainiape's glass "skull."
