The Covenant requires that signatories make progress toward the full realization of the right to self-determination; the right to gender equality; labor rights (e.g., the rights to work, to receive a living wage, and to form labor unions and strike); the right to social security; family rights (e.g., the rights to paid parental leave and to freedom from child exploitation); the right to an adequate standard of living (with sufficient food, water, clothing, and housing); and the rights to health, education, and participation in cultural life.
