BOOK EXCERPT:

Even though the life-time of Srimad Bhagavad Gita is at the end of Dwapara yug and also at the beginning of Kaliyug, it almost substitutes the essence and preachings of all our Vedas and Upanishads of both our Satya yug and Treta yug. Due to drop of divinity and raise of lust in the human beings from Treta yug or Satyayug to this Kaliyug, everything taught in Vedas and Upanishads cannot just be either implemented or followed in this Kaliyug, but the preaching and essence of Srimad Bhagavad Gita are totally practical, implementable and adoptable in today’s life of our Human Generation.

"The true spiritual commentary on the Bhagavad Gita is hereby published. Other than Kriyanvitas, no one else will be capable of understanding this, the reason being that from the beginning to end, Kriya and the states of Kriya are described here. If ordinary people read this they can create opposite meanings and, only paying attention to the words and language, will create all kinds of complicated agrumentations; thus, not understanding the essense of this, they will go about with nothing but the words. But for aware and devoted Kriyavans, this is a jewel of the heart. As they progress in Kriya - in the same way will they easily be able to discern its [the work's] true significance." -distilled from the Introduction of the original Bengali Edition English translation by Yoga Niketan Print edition is 657 pages

BOOK EXCERPT:

Why one more translation of the Gita? This book is a faithful translation of the Gita in simple English. The reader will find that frequent use of comma has made this translation easier to follow. This translator has retained many of the traditional Sanskrit words, like dharma, even in English translation. This is because such words are difficult to translate: the translation in such cases is far from accurate, and, in fact, can even be misleading. To overcome this problem, this translator has given separate explanatory notes for such words, instead of merely giving their “common” translation. The other problem arises from the fact that in Sanskrit, a single word like ‘brahman’ can have several different meanings. Here again, this translation of the Gita faithfully gives different traditional translations and meanings in their proper context and perspective. Lastly, both the Sanskrit text and its Roman transliteration have been presented after separating almost every word by removing all euphonic junctions of final and initial letters (sandhi), also called the phonetic combinations of words. This has increased readability of the text tremendously. Thus, this book takes care of the common as well as special problems that a reader encounters during his study of the Gita. In addition, much useful relevant information given in several helpful indexes and the appendices in this compilation will make reading the Gita easier and more interesting. After all, the Gita is meant to be studied by all.In this book, the original text of the Gita has been reproduced in Sanskrit. For the benefit of the readers who do not read the devanagari (Sanskrit) script, the entire Gita has also been reproduced in Roman transliteration scheme.

Srimad Bhagavadgita

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Srimad Bhagavad Gita is an epic story of the battle between good and evil, and the psychological hurdles one faces in such a battle, in addition to the physical hardships one has to endure. The former are more difficult to handle. The Gita is a treatise on celestial counselling that Arjuna needed in the midst of his battle with the evil forces that happened to be a part of his larger family. It is an illustration that man is a composite of good and evil. His goal is to overcome evil and promote the divine within. There is much in the Gita that counsellors in various fields could learn for their benefit. The Gita was a constant companion of Mahatma Gandhi who developed his concept of nonviolence and the strategy of satyagraha as effective instruments for conflict resolutions. Satyagraha was his way of resolving the manifest conflict between good and evil by synthesizing the two opposite by a dialectical process. This book is a modest attempt to bring into focus the psychological implications and some of the lessons we could learn from this epic narrative that are as relevant to the troubled world today as they were then.
