Creative Leadership Signposts In Higher Education

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

"Creative ways of thinking about leadership are helpful to guide practice and personal growth. This book builds a strategic roadmap for creative leadership practice, putting the spotlight on a leader’s professional development journey in the process. The book is about leadership on the ground in higher education, where the ‘rubber hits the road’. It can also be useful in business, or for anyone wanting to think outside the square. Through a creative storytelling approach, the author takes the reader through Tuscany and her on-the-job experience as a leader of learning and teaching. Along the way, she explains some of the theoretical influences on her thinking and practice – in ways and combinations she hadn’t read about in other leadership books, or experienced in professional development programmes. Through real stories, the author shows how she made creative connections in building her own knowledge on present and past experience, with reflection on how practice can be improved with a clear focus on collegiality and strategic outcomes. This approach reflects the five creative leadership signposts that she explains and illustrates throughout the book. "

Signposts Of The Last Days

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

SIGNPOSTS of The Last Days is not an attempt to sensationalize predicted events from prophecy implying they will happen in a particular manner. Remember that when Jesus came the first time, all but two people were looking for a different kind of Messiah than the One they got. Instead you will find the Biblical basis for twelve predicted events of the Last Days. This book is written to review some of the available passages concerning these events that will lead to the end of the Last Days and how they relate to each other. They are arranged in the order they are expected to happen. It also is designed to relate coming events to the past times in which God has presented Himself to the world using different people. This is your opportunity to separate the modern day scenarios seemingly written for Hollywood from what we might realistically expect should we be alive to see it all unfold. Please read them all with the understanding that there may be fewer than two individuals who get close to the actual truth this time around.

BOOK EXCERPT:

In this book, Lochman presents an ethic illuminated by the Ten Commandments. In wrestling to discover the meaning of human life, both individual and social, his deepest concern has been with freedom under the law. This moral basis is provided by the Ten Commandments, the Magna Charta of freedom.Lochman discusses current problem areas of personal, sexual, and social ethics: worship of false gods, anxiety, the work ethic and the cult of success, murder, terrorism, suicide, abortion, euthanasia, the death penalty, war, the new morality, and new understandings of shared life in marriage.

Signposts In Cyberspace

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Domain Name System (DNS) enables user-friendly alphanumeric namesâ€"domain namesâ€"to be assigned to Internet sites. Many of these names have gained economic, social, and political value, leading to conflicts over their ownership, especially names containing trademarked terms. Congress, in P.L. 105-305, directed the Department of Commerce to request the NRC to perform a study of these issues. When the study was initiated, steps were already underway to address the resolution of domain name conflicts, but the continued rapid expansion of the use of the Internet had raised a number of additional policy and technical issues. Furthermore, it became clear that the introduction of search engines and other tools for Internet navigation was affecting the DNS. Consequently, the study was expanded to include policy and technical issues related to the DNS in the context of Internet navigation. This report presents the NRC's assessment of the current state and future prospects of the DNS and Internet navigation, and its conclusions and recommendations concerning key technical and policy issues.

Shivers Signposts

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Shivers & Signposts: The Journey Continues is Len Richman’s second exploration of a life measured out by a distinct rhythm of his own devising. Picking up where his first memoir, Raindrops Glimpses Moments: An Unconventional Memoir of an Unplanned Journey, left off, Richman shows in Shivers & Signposts that he still has much to do, and much to say. Richman attacks life with uncommon vigour. Never motionless, he moves forwards - and sometimes backwards - suffusing each manoeuvre with unique energy…vitality and constant evolution. Shivers at the thought of growing old, of becoming stale…occasional alienation and loneliness, Richman, is driven onwards by “a pressing need to redefine and redirect his innermost self”, a self that he continually re-evaluates through the lens of modern technology, literature, theatre and film. These are the signposts that guide him through his fascinating quest for renewal of spirit and self…Let us hear his decisive commentary on modern social and cultural mores, his unapologetic tackling of issues from racism to materialism to present-day psychoanalysis. Let us listen to the music of Richman’s own Love Song, about the love of a life well-lived – and still well-worth living. Let us be challenged, through Richman’s examination of his own life, to ask of ourselves: How should we presume? From the “Introduction” by Stuart Lubarsky, M.D.
