BOOK EXCERPT:
This is one of the first textbooks to explore the phenomenon of Influencer Marketing and how it fits within marketing communications to build brands and their communities. Influencers – those who can impact a brand’s marketing and advertising strategies as well as build brand communities – are making extensive use of the new digital and traditional communications platforms. Influencers offer brands the ability to deliver the “right” communication and marketing messages to a specific target audience. Across four core sections, this book brings together the key theory and practical implications of this new marketing tool: how it works as part of communications campaigns, including how to select the right influencers and measure their success, the dark side of influencer marketing, and the legal and ethical framework. With contributions from authors across the globe, each chapter is also accompanied by an in- depth case study – from the Kardashians to Joe Wicks – that demonstrates how the theory translates to practice. Influencer Marketing is important reading for advanced, postgraduate and executive education students of Marketing, Digital Marketing, Marketing Communications, Brand Management and Public Relations. With its accessible style and practical content, it is also highly valuable for Marketing Communications, Branding and PR specialists.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Living Simply, Living Rich offers a unique perspective on the concept of simple living. While most discussions on the topic take the position that simple living requires adherence to the idea that we must “do without” and embrace absolute minimalism, Bob Lee insists that simple living is no more the right path than capitalism or materialism. “Crash diets, whether in nutrition or lifestyles, have no chance of permanent success,” he states. Instead, this book shows how a more focused lifestyle offers fulfillment, a responsible way of living and a more realistic approach to sustained changes in the way we interact with the world around us. Living Simply, Living Rich works, whether you are poor or rich, middle-income or no income. It is an approach to living that remembers that the whole approach is just that: about living. Experiences replace acquisitions, relationships replace career success. This book may be life changing, but it is not a lifestyle manual. It is a pathway to choosing your unique road. Robert Frost was right. Choosing the least travelled path will make all the difference.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Opening their pocketbooks as well their hearts, Darlene McCord and her husband Jim generously support the work of talented scientists at prestigious institutions such as The University of Iowa and Michigan State University. The McCords' giving enables leading edge research to be conducted in the fields of free radical biology and epigenetics. The Iowa City residents also continue to fund intensive studies that seek to find a cure for the Buruli Ulcer, a flesh-destroying bacterium that each year, globally, threatens thousands of children. The ulcer is tragic in many ways but none more disturbing than the fact that 80 percent of its victims are kids under the age of fifteen. While science has yet to discover the cause of the disease, researchers continue to search for an answer and that is where the children of the world need your help. It is critical that others step up and join the McCords in funding the treatment for afflicted children in more than thirty countries, including Ghana, Benin, Australia, Japan, the U.S. and regions in Central America. How important is your support? Once the Buruli Ulcer takes hold it can grow in size, from a boil, to the point where the only treatment option is amputation of a limb. The McCords are committed to finding the cause of, and cure for, the Buruli Ulcer. Proceeds from this book are being donated to the McCord Research Buruli Ulcer Foundation. There are also ways you can aid these children. To learn how you can help, visit www.mccordresearch.com Book jacket.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The question of life, Michael Naas argues, though rarely foregrounded by Plato, runs through and structures his thought. By characterizing being in terms of life, Plato in many of his later dialogues, including the Statesman, begins to discover—or, better, to invent—a notion of true or real life that would be opposed to all merely biological or animal life, a form of life that would be more valuable than everything we call life and every life that can actually be lived. This emphasis on life in the Platonic dialogues illuminates the structural relationship between many of Plato’s most time-honored distinctions, such as being and becoming, soul and body. At the same time, it helps to explain the enormous power and authority that Plato’s thought has exercised, for good or ill, over our entire philosophical and religious tradition. Lucid yet sophisticated, Naas’s account offers a fundamental rereading of what the concept of life entails, one that inflects a range of contemporary conversations, from biopolitics, to the new materialisms, to the place of the human within the living world.

BOOK EXCERPT:
In answering the question of life’s meaning, the African perspective is only just beginning to emerge. While this is true, a critical examination of African theories of meaningfulness, the possibility of life’s meaninglessness, as well as ideas about the proper mode/mood for living with the meaninglessness of life are largely underexplored within the African philosophical tradition. This book provides several plausible accounts of meaning in/of life from an African perspective, examines the relationship between death and life’s meaningfulness, and explores the possibility of life’s meaninglessness, proposing the “philosophy of indifference” as the proper mode/mood for living with the meaninglessness of life.

BOOK EXCERPT:
With the publication of The Use of Bodies (2016), Agamben's multi-volume Homo Sacer project has come to an end, or to paraphrase Agamben, has been abandoned. We now have a new vantage point from which to reread Agamben's corpus; not only his method but his political and philosophical thought can been seen in a clearer light. This timely book both assesses and contributes to the debates on the Homo Sacer project in its entirety. Rethinking the notions of life and power – two of the central themes in Agamben's work – through a reconstruction of his philosophical method and an examination of his critique of Western metaphysics, this book argues that Agamben's thought cannot be fully grasped if we do not account for the intertwining of politics and ontology. This book argues that it is only by revisiting Agamben's critique of signification and metaphysics and examining his reconstruction of the archaeological method that we can understand his notions of life and power. By bringing together the two parts of the Homo Sacer project – the archaeology of the signature of Sovereignty and the archaeology of governmentality – this book provides an analysis of the production of Agambenian 'bare life'. In this sense this project re-articulates Agamben's works on signification, language and ontology with his archaeology of power. Offering an original examination of Agamben's notion of resistance, this is essential reading for any thoughtful consideration of his philosophical legacy.
