In Slightly Slower 66, John Mulhern III writes about traveling a total of 6,094 miles in fifteen days, including eight wonderful days on Route 66 itself. The route goes through sixteen widely (and wildly!) different states including not only stops in the big cities of Chicago, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, and Denver, but also nights spent in the small cities and towns of Tucumcari, Holbrook, and Barstow. The expected adventures on the road yield to visits with friends old and new, encounters with various other Corvettes and other vehicles of interest, and more than a few great places to eat, sometimes in the most unexpected places.

This book incorporates the proceedings of the Fifth International Cholinergic Conference, which took place in Oglebay Park, West Vir ginia, USA, on October 30th to November 4th, 1983. A scenic forty five minute ride from the City of Pittsburgh, surrounded by champion ship golf courses, luxurious woods and a picturesque lake, Oglebay provided relaxed and beautiful surroundings, conducive to contem plation, stimulating discussions and, thought-provoking scientific sessions. Over 160 individuals from allover the world participated in the sessions. The meeting was sub-divided into oral presentations, round table discussions and poster sessions, and centered upon ten key topics of cholinergic relevance (see Table of Contents). Following in the tradition of the four International Conferences which had preceded this one, the Conference featured the most up to-date developments in the area of cholinergic mechanisms, and provided for ample and productive discussion of new fields and di rections in this area. Moreover, both senior investigators in the field as well as recent newcomers to this sphere of investigation participated in the proceedings. This book, touches on a wide array of mechanisms and applications - from the preclinical to the clinical level. It should thus be useful as a comprehensive resource, with the cholinergic system as a focal hub. The Conference could not have been as successful as it turned out to be, without the support of a number of important contributors.

Christianity in Northern Malawi deals with the interaction of the missionary methods of the Scottish missionary Donald Fraser and the traditional culture of the Ngoni people of northern Malawi in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It looks at Ngoni origins and culture prior to first contacts with the missionaries, at the early life and ideas of Fraser, and at Fraser's disagreements with some of his Scottish colleagues. There are also sections on Ngoni interactions with the early colonial government, and the development of a genuinely Ngoni Church. The book uses primary and oral sources, some of which were not previously available.

Conducting Opera discusses operas in the standard repertory from the perspective of a conductor with a lifetime of experience performing them. It focuses on Joseph Rescigno’s approach to preparing and performing these masterworks in order to realize what opera can uniquely achieve: a fusion of music and drama resulting in a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts. Opening with a chapter discussing his performance philosophy, Rescigno then covers Mozart’s most-performed operas, standards of the bel canto school including Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia, five of Verdi’s works including La traviata, a selection of Wagner’s compositions followed by French Romantic operas such as Bizet’s Carmen, Puccini’s major works, and finally four operas by Richard Strauss. This paper outlines the Government's new plans for the timing of the increase in state pension age to 66. The Pensions Act 2007 legislated for the state pension age to increase for both men and women to 66 by 2026, to 67 by 2036, and to 68 by 2046. But subsequent gains in average life expectancy have outpaced the projections on which that timetable was based. Official projections for life expectancy for those reaching 65 in 2026 have increased by 1.5 years for men and 1.6 years for women. The cost implications for maintaining the state pension are serious. The increased life expectancy means that, just for those reaching state pension age this year, the costs would increase by £6.5 billion over the lifetime of that cohort. Women's state pension age is currently rising from 60 to be equalised with men's at 65 by 2020. To enable an increase to 66, this timetable will be adjusted so that equalisation is reached in November 2018. The increase to 66 will then occur between December 2018 and April 2020 for both men and women. The increase will be phased in at a rate of three months' increase in state pension age every four months. This means that 4.9 million people will have their state pension age revised, of which 4.4 million will have an increase of a year or less. It will result in £30.4 billion of savings between 2016/17 and 2025/26, which would otherwise have to be met by the working-age population.
