Why Kids Can T Read

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Nearly forty percent of all fourth graders in this country cannot read at grade level, and this number rises to sixty percent for children coming from poor families. This gap in learning increases as students go through grade school and is a primary reason for school failure. Ironically, this problem comes even after comprehensive research demonstrates that nearly all children can learn to read if taught using proven-effective instruction. Here, the authors describe the principles of this research in language that non-educators can understand and educators can use. It discusses how to recognize whether the research on reading is being used appropriately, and if not, how to make that happen. Through the eyes of parents and educators who have succeeded in their own struggles to change the educational system, the book provides the reader with the tools and knowledge for transforming the way reading is taught in their children's classrooms. This book takes the reader step-by-step through an understanding of the research on reading and ways in which a single, determined person can make a difference in the learning ability of every student in our nation's schools. Part One is a series of chapters written by individuals who discuss what they experienced during these battles and what made them successful. Part Two is written by a series of experts who describe how they have overcome the challenges involved in creating widespread change in school systems. This second edition also includes information on Common Core State Standards, increased testing and accountability efforts, and related policy issues that directly impact how children learn to read. The appendix is filled with resources-people, places, sample tools, a glossary and bibliography to help the reader. Some key features of this book include: Easy to understand descriptions of research First-person stories of how they have helped teach their kids to read Clear understanding of scientifically based reading and how it can be applied to the classroom Summary of reading-related Common Core State Standards Sample tools for parent advocates Resource lists of government officials, organizations that can help with reading efforts

Why Johnny Still Can T Read Or Write Or Understand Math

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

“Stephen King? A piker: no horror story is as harrowing as Andrew Bernstein’s must-read Why Johnny Still Can’t Read or Write or Understand Math. Bernstein tears the genteel cover off the educational system and reveals the truly shocking extent of the destruction that has been wrought by fashionable Leftist educational theories, the con men, quacks and psychopaths who have gained control of American public education over the last few decades, and the public educational system’s addiction to taxpayer funding and the latest societal trends, no matter how damaging they are to children. But Bernstein doesn’t just leave us screaming: he also offers a practical, readily applicable program for taking back the educational system and saving our children from these lunatics. If you have children in school, this is essential reading. And even if you don’t, but care about the future of society, you must not miss this all-important book.” —Robert Spencer, bestselling author of The History of Jihad, Did Muhammad Exist? and The Critical Qur'an Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, parents across the nation grapple with a new and horrifying understanding of just how bad our educational system has become. It all adds up to a system that seems hopelessly, terribly, and irrevocably broken. But as an educator and author, Andrew Bernstein reminds us that American education in the nineteenth through early-twentieth century was superb. This nation once knew how to turn out the brightest, most resourceful and independent-thinking people the world had ever seen. We can do it again.

Why Johnny Can T Read And What You Can Do About It

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This is the book that revolutionized the teaching of reading to children in America. Up until this time, since 1930, virtually all children in America had learned to read from the book "Dick and Jane." As this book demonstrated, Dick and Jane had unnatural dialogue and was not interesting to children. In order to get the children to learn to read, materials had to be introduced that the children would find interesting. On page 6-7 of this book, the author condemns, "those series of horrible, stupid, emasculated, pointless, tasteless little readers, the stuff and gruff about Dick and Jane." It became widely acknowledged that "this was the book that killed Dick and Jane." After these conclusions were widely acknowledged, Dick and Jane had to be taken out and shot. Spot was sent to the pound. Millions of Dick and Jane books were sent to the recycle bin. As a result, the original Dick and Jane books are a rare collector's today. Why Johnny Can't Read is an angry book by an aroused parent. It is addressed to the thousands of bewildered parents whose normally intelligent youngsters can't read well enough to do their school work. Dr. Flesch has visited classrooms, talked to students, teachers and parents, worked his way through a mountain of books and articles and examined study materials. "Johnny can't read," Dr. Flesch concludes, "for the simple reason that nobody ever showed him how." The American System of teaching children to read was no longer the traditional alphabetic-phonetic method. Since 1925 most children had been forced to memorize entire words one after another like Chinese characters - a process which ends in disorderly guesswork. Failing to learn how to sound out words letter by letter, the child never mastered the mechanics of reading. Dr. Flesch provides a cure in this book. Why Johnny Can't Read contains complete material and instructions for teaching children to read at home. Here are step-by-step directions, simple phonetic drills, which can be used for beginners or youngsters whose reading ability hasn't kept pace with their development in other fields. Parents who apply these wise and proven methods can give their children invaluable aid. It has 74 pages of phonetic lists, 9 charts of block and script letters.

What My Eyes Have Seen In My Lifetime

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This is a summary of the book entitled A Blind Man's Tale. This book depicts what my eyes have seen within my lifetime from the late 1950's until 2019. This book is a story about possible threats that are being placed against our Democracy and it gives a brief synopsis of some of the possible solutions to various problems that we currently face within our Great Nation today. This book is based upon World Leaders from then and until now who have played a key role in the vast history of our Nation and Democracy, which has now found us in a "State of Disarray." We are in a situation knowing that half of these World Leaders appear to have not made the right decisions over the many years, and the ones who did make the right decisions, the Nation does not approve. That's why I base the book on a lot of ideals that are formulated from greenhouse gases to the forest preserves burning, to us starting a Nuclear War with North Korea. So all of this is seen through the persona of how long are we going to keep doing the same old things over and over again, by "kicking the same old can down the road." We appear to keep making the same old mistakes over and over again, with all of these old and outdated laws from centuries long ago. We continue to call ourselves the Number One Nation of the World and yet, every Leader that enters into office continues to set their own private agenda. And it's not even an agenda to help out our country, nor the planet Earth. No one appears to be looking-out for the greater good of this Nation, and it appears to be a continual agenda of the same old business as usual, with "profit-over-people," with both the Middle-Class and the Lower-Income Families left to suffer and pay the costs of it all. I would like for the reader to be able to grasp upon some new ways of thinking, to spread love and peace, immediately deploy steps to save our natural resources and put aside our differences, so that we can work together as one United Front for the preservation of both our planet and mankind. Let's all join together right now before it's too late to save our entire world! May you continue to be an avid reader and change-maker. Thanks for listening!
