George Bigbie was living in North Farnham, Richmond County, Virginia as early as the 1730s. He was married twice and was the father of four children. Two of his children were Archibald Bigbie (b. 1734) who married Lydia Calvert (1748-1819) and was the father three children, and George Bigbie (1736-1778) who married Catherine and was the father of five children. Their descendants live in Virginia and other parts of the United States.

This book summarizes the history of the first Randolph Macon College, and how it intertwined with the Boydton, Virginia, community. While in Boydton, almost 300 students took a degree. This book tracks the lives of these graduates, many from before college, after graduation, throughout their participation in the Confederate government or military, after the War, and for many, until death. In pursuing the research, the author came across an additional 100 men who had attended RMC, and their stories are included as well, along with the chaplains for the college chapel, the tutors for the college students and all adjunct and full-time faculty for the 38 year period. The graduates include 52 college presidents and numerous members of Congress. Many leaders of society, education and politics began their careers at RMC.

Richard Blunt of Virginia died before 1658. He had only one child, Thomas. Thomas Blunt (1656-1709) married twice. The name of his first wife in unknown. His 2nd wife was Priscilla Browne. Numerous descendants are traced, but only a few after 1900. Most lived in Virginia.

This copiously documented volume sheds new light on one of the earliest families to settle in Virginia, that of Captain William Tucker of London, and on a number of allied families whose progenitors figured in the early history of the Virginia and Maryland colonies.

The most comprehensive state project of its kind, the Dictionary provides information on some 4,000 notable North Carolinians whose accomplishments and occasional misdeeds span four centuries. Much of the bibliographic information found in the six volumes has been compiled for the first time. All of the persons included are deceased. They are native North Carolinians, no matter where they made the contributions for which they are noted, or non-natives whose contributions were made in North Carolina.
