"Success in the propagation of game birds has been enjoyed in the United States by individuals, by sportsmen's organizations, and by state game departments. There have been failures, of course, but methods that assure success are known. These are treated concisely in this bulletin and are elaborated upon in other publications ... Raising game birds may be made profitable, since the demand exceeds the supply of adult birds for breeding, of both young and adults for restocking, and of eggs for distribution to farmers and shooting clubs."--Ii.

The bean crop of the Southwest suffers severe injury from the bean ladybird, which sometimes ruins entire crops. It is restricted to beans for food and attacks all kinds. Both beetles and their larvæ devour all parts of the plant -- leaves, flowers and pods -- but the chief injury is to the foliage. The pest can be controlled in small areas by hand-picking the overwintered beetles and by brushing the larvæ or young from the plants during hot, dry weather. On a larger scale it may be controlled by spraying with arsenite of zinc, arsenate of lead, or arsenate of lime. Clean cultivation should be practiced and early and late planting."--[2]

"Oats rank next to corn and wheat in crop acreage and value in the United States. But notwithstanding this, less attention has been given to the production of oats than to any other important grain so that yields often have been unsatisfactory and the crop sometimes unprofitable. The essentials for success in oat production are -- Well-prepared land that is retentive of moisture and fairly fertile ; Good seed of suitable varieties, thoroughly cleaned and graded and treated for smut ; Early seeding with a grain drill ; The harvesting of the crop at the proper time ; Careful shocking and stacking so as to preserve the crop from injury by weathering ; Clean thrashing. Longleaf pine can be profitably grown as a forest crop on farms as well as on large industrial holdings throughout most of the Southern Coastal Plain. The tree is able to grow well even on poor sandy soils, withstands fires with less injury than other pines, and produces both naval stores and high-grade timber. Cattle grazing can be combined with timber production in longleaf forests to enable farmers to make more profitable dual use of their land. This bulletin offers suggestions to farmers and other timberland owners for establishing and managing longleaf pine.
