Measurement error models describe functional relationships among variables observed, subject to random errors of measurement. This book treats general aspects of the measurement problem and features a discussion of the history of measurement error models.

This monograph on measurement error and misclassification covers a broad range of problems and emphasizes unique features in modeling and analyzing problems arising from medical research and epidemiological studies. She is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association and an Elected Member of the International Statistical Institute.

Shanti S. Gupta has made pioneering contributions to ranking and selection theory; in particular, to subset selection theory. His list of publications and the numerous citations his publications have received over the last forty years will amply testify to this fact. Besides ranking and selection, his interests include order statistics and reliability theory. The first editor's association with Shanti Gupta goes back to 1965 when he came to Purdue to do his Ph.D. He has the good fortune of being a student, a colleague and a long-standing collaborator of Shanti Gupta. The second editor's association with Shanti Gupta began in 1978 when he started his research in the area of order statistics. During the past twenty years, he has collaborated with Shanti Gupta on several publications. We both feel that our lives have been enriched by our association with him. He has indeed been a friend, philosopher and guide to us.

This proceedings volume contains nine selected papers that were presented in the International Symposium in Statistics, 2012 held at Memorial University from July 16 to 18. These nine papers cover three different areas for longitudinal data analysis, four dealing with longitudinal data subject to measurement errors, four on incomplete longitudinal data analysis, and the last one for inferences for longitudinal data subject to outliers. Unlike in the independence setup, the inferences in measurement errors, missing values, and/or outlier models, are not adequately discussed in the longitudinal setup. The papers in the present volume provide details on successes and further challenges in these three areas for longitudinal data analysis. This volume is the first outlet with current research in three important areas in the longitudinal setup. The nine papers presented in three parts clearly reveal the similarities and differences in inference techniques used for three different longitudinal setups. Because the research problems considered in this volume are encountered in many real life studies in biomedical, clinical, epidemiology, socioeconomic, econometrics, and engineering fields, the volume should be useful to the researchers including graduate students in these areas.

This volume presents the published Proceedings of the joint meeting of GUM92 and the 7th International Workshop on Statistical Modelling, held in Munich, Germany from 13 to 17 July 1992. The meeting aimed to bring together researchers interested in the development and applications of generalized linear modelling in GUM and those interested in statistical modelling in its widest sense. This joint meeting built upon the success of previous workshops and GUM conferences. Previous GUM conferences were held in London and Lancaster, and a joint GUM Conference/4th Modelling Workshop was held in Trento. (The Proceedings of previous GUM conferences/Statistical Modelling Workshops are available as numbers 14 , 32 and 57 of the Springer Verlag series of Lecture Notes in Statistics). Workshops have been organized in Innsbruck, Perugia, Vienna, Toulouse and Utrecht. (Proceedings of the Toulouse Workshop appear as numbers 3 and 4 of volume 13 of the journal Computational Statistics and Data Analysis). Much statistical modelling is carried out using GUM, as is apparent from many of the papers in these Proceedings.
