System Dynamics Volume I

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

System Dynamics is a component of Encyclopedia of Technology, Information, and Systems Management Resources in the global Encyclopedia of Life Support Systems (EOLSS), which is an integrated compendium of twenty one Encyclopedias. The world is facing a wide range of increasingly complex, dynamic problems in the public and private arenas alike. System dynamics discipline is an attempt to address such dynamic, long-term policy problems. Applications cover a very wide spectrum, including national economic problems, supply chains, project management, educational problems, energy systems, sustainable development, politics, psychology, medical sciences, health care, and many other areas. This theme provides a comprehensive overview of system dynamics methodology, including its conceptual / philosophical framework, as well as the technical aspects of modeling and analysis. System dynamics can address the fundamental structural causes of the long-term dynamic contemporary socio-economic problems. Its "systems" perspective challenges the barriers that separate disciplines. The interdisciplinary and systemic approach of system dynamics could be critical in dealing with the increasingly complex problems of our modern world in this new century. These two volumes are aimed at the following five major target audiences: University and College students Educators, Professional practitioners, Research personnel and Policy analysts, managers, and decision makers and NGOs.

Non Smooth Problems In Vehicle Systems Dynamics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The book combines vehicle systems dynamics with the latest theoretical developments in dynamics of non-smooth systems and numerical analysis of differential-algebraic dynamical systems with discontinuities. These two fields are fundamental for the modelling and analysis of vehicle dynamical sytems. The results are also applicable to other non-smooth dynamical systems.

Power System Dynamics And Stability

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

As the demand for electrical power increases, power systems are being operated closer to their stability limits than ever before. This text focuses on explaining and analysing the dynamic performance of such systems which is important for both system operation and planning. Placing emphasis on understanding the underlying physical principles, the book opens with an exploration of basic concepts using simple mathematical models. Building on these firm foundations the authors proceed to more complex models and algorithms. Features include: * Progressive approach from simplicity to complexity. * Detailed description of slow and fast dynamics. * Examination of the influence of automatic control on power system dynamics. * Stability enhancement including the use of PSS and Facts. * Advanced models and algorithms for power system stability analysis. Senior undergraduate, postgraduate and research students studying power systems will appreciate the authors' accessible approach. Also for electric utility engineers, this valuable resource examines power system dynamics and stability from both a mathematical and engineering viewpoint.

Advanced Multibody System Dynamics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The German Research Council (DFG) decided 1987 to establish a nationwide five year research project devoted to dynamics of multibody systems. In this project universities and research centers cooperated with the goal to develop a general pur pose multibody system software package. This concept provides the opportunity to use a modular structure of the software, i.e. different multibody formalisms may be combined with different simulation programmes via standardized interfaces. For the DFG project the database RSYST was chosen using standard FORTRAN 77 and an object oriented multibody system datamodel was defined. The project included • research on the fundamentals of the method of multibody systems, • concepts for new formalisms of dynamical analysis, • development of efficient numerical algorithms and • realization of a powerful software package of multibody systems. These goals required an interdisciplinary cooperation between mathematics, compu ter science, mechanics, and control theory. ix X After a rigorous reviewing process the following research institutions participated in the project (under the responsibility of leading scientists): Technical University of Aachen (Prof. G. Sedlacek) Technical University of Darmstadt (Prof. P. Hagedorn) University of Duisburg M. Hiller) (Prof.

Intelligent Tire Systems

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Vehicle performance is largely controlled by the tire dynamic characteristics mediated by forces and moments generated at the tire-road contact patch. The tire may undergo deformations that increase the longitudinal and lateral forces within the contact patch. It is crucial to develop a model for the accurate prediction of tire characteristics, as this will enable optimization of the overall performance of vehicles. Research has been conducted to identify new strategies for tire measurement and modeling vehicle dynamics analysis. Autonomous vehicles (AVs), electric vehicles (EVs), shared sets, and connected vehicles have further revolutionized interdisciplinary research on vehicle and tire systems. The performance and reliability of vehicle active safety and advanced driver assistance systems (ADASs) are primarily influenced by the tire force capacity, which cannot be measured. High active safety and optimized ADAS are particularly crucial for automated driving systems (ADS) to guarantee passenger safety in intelligent transportation settings. The establishment of online measurement or estimation tools for tire states, especially for autonomous vehicles, is critical.
