Iván Nyusztay’s Myth, Telos, Identity: The Tragic Schema in Greek and Shakespearean Drama for the first time presents a systematic comparison of Greek and Shakespearean tragedy. By thematizing the common modes of the tragic, it measures their structural regularities against corresponding philosophical and ethical reflections. The comparative theory of tragedy evolves through a constant debate with the traditional views of Aristotle, Hegel, Schelling, Paul Ricoeur, and others. An architectonic survey of plays leads to a generic distinction between pure tragedy and melodrama, and proposes a possible description of Christian tragedy. This generic differentiation is considered by means of a teleological approach to tragedy as well as from a formal perspective. The criticism of traditional notions of character stresses the relevance of dividedness and internal collision – tragic phenomena which are explored as necessary stages of self in the constitution and formation of tragic or internal alterity. This form of alterity is underpinned by a discussion of action theory and speech act theory. In commemoration of Guido de Marco's dedication to the international dimension of maritime affairs, Fondation de Malte felt it would be a fitting tribute to focus on a particular moment of de Marco's life, in his involvement as one of the prestigious Vice-Presidents of the Independent World Commission on the Oceans (IWCO). The maritime context, both from a national and international perspective, remained for him an essential dimension to any geopolitical progress.

Listen to childrens imaginations, as they always tell the truth. When do children start to use their imaginations to create desired outcomes? Are they pretend or real? When my son was three years old, he looked at me and said, Mom, I was Billy the Kid in my last life. You can imagine my surprise! Where did that come from? I asked him if there was anything else he wanted to tell me, and he said no and returned to playing with his toy cars. I thought on that a lot. Where would a three-year-old come up with a story like that? Had he lived before? Did he dream it, or did he imagine it? Does the past create the future? He never spoke of Billy the Kid again and does not remember it to this day, but anytime he said, Mom, can I tell you something? after that, I always stopped what I was doing and listened. I didnt want to hear some things he said as he got older, but to this day, he always tells me his dreams and desires. I hope my just listening to him had something to do with that.

in the North African Arab world, democracy has been trying to sprout serenely through real parliaments. Some, if not all of them, have been working first and foremost as constituent assemblies, formulating constitutions where, in theory laced by hope, the absolutist conditions enjoyed only by the dictators would be forever abolished.In such a setting, the Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly holds a privileged, if highly responsible, position both as a model of democratic governance as well as a gathering place where states are encouraged to emulate the more 'democratic' among them. Speakers/Presidents of the nascent and the older Parliaments could galvanise this institution to take a major role in the Union for the Mediterranean, so that parliamentary democracy is seen as a real dialogic instrument for peace. To that goal this TELOS is dedicated.

This book presents a theologically grounded understanding of academic freedom that builds on, extends, and completes the prevailing secular understanding for Catholic higher education.

Seminar paper from the year 2003 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Linguistics, grade: 3,0, University of Tubingen (Seminar für Englische Philologie), course: Hauptseminar Englische Linguistik, language: English, abstract: “Communication is understood as the exchange and negotiation of information between at least two individuals through the use of verbal and non-verbal symbols, oral and written/ visual modes, and production and comprehension processes” (Michael Canale 1983:4). The aim of the Blackpool Telos Project is to raise communicative competence in second language learning of 10th and 11th grade german grammar school students. The BTP is also suitable for advanced adult learners. The above mentioned quotation should serve as a kind of guiding principle for the following analysis. One should bear in mind that according to Breen & Candlin (1980), Morrow (1977) and Widdowson (1978), communication is a form of social interaction and is unpredictable and creative both in form and message. Communication occurs in sociocultural contexts and in discourse, it is performed under limiting psychological and other conditions. It always has a purpose and involves authentic as opposed to textbook language. And finally, communication is considered to be successful or not on the basis of actual results. The learner and his needs, the learning goal and the final realization within Telos are the most important points. In the BTP, special emphasis will be put on the independent learning of a second language in a constructive environment. Here, English is considered as a second language and not foreign language because it is used within the own language field. Non native English speakers can find themselves in two situations: “einerseits Situationen, in denen Englisch als ‘fremde Sprache’ verwendet wird, d.h. außerhalb des eigenen Sprachraums und der für die eigene Kultur und Gesellschaft alltäglichen Kommunikationsanlässe und –funktionen; andererseits Situationen, in denen dem Englischen innerhalb des eigenen Sprachraums als ‘zweite Sprache’ neben der eigentlichen Muttersprache eine kulturell und gesellschaftlich verankerte und bedeutsame Rolle zukommt” (Kohn, Kurt 2002: 1). The organization of this paper is as follows. First I will provide a theoretical background for the BTP. Special emphasis is put on defining communicative approaches. The second part connects theory and practice. In this part, the main aim of the Blackpool Telos Project, and an introduction to the different activities, will be discussed and linked to constuctivist ideas. The third part will provide a linguistic context of the material and discuss the learning potential of the various tasks. In order to illustrate the third part, screenshots of the BTP will be used. The CD with the BTP will be attached to the paper.
