One by one, they brushed the opening of the tent to the side and walked out. As each one stepped outside the tent opening, they stopped, causing the person behind them to almost stumble. All at once, the sky and the air around them burst into a rainbow of colors. Greg's heart began to race, and he spun around, saying, 'What's going on?' He stood there looking around. 'What's happening?' Nobody could answer. Nobody knew. They stood there staring at the sky and the world around them. The crystal colors fell on them like raindrops. The wind came up suddenly and blew the dust around them as they shielded their eyes and then closed them tight. The next thing they knew, when they opened them up, they were in a garden. A magic paradise only for children. Secret missions from God. A child destined to be a prophet. Seven children are called into the magical Garden of Yahweh and sent on assignments, determined by The Color of Angels. Each of their meetings end with an important mission assigned by God. Tasks may involve love, hate, battles, death, peace, war, dreams, and new life. But above all, faith in God. The Color of Angels chronicles the developing relationships of these amazing children while exploring the remarkable impact their gifts from God have on the people they touch along the way and the unlikely ways their lives become intertwined.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Given the anthropological focus on ethnography as a kind of deep immersion, the interview poses theoretical and methodological challenges for the discipline. This volume explores those challenges and argues that the interview should be seen as a special, productive site of ethnographic encounter, a site of a very particular and important kind of knowing. In a range of social contexts and cultural settings, contributors show how the interview is experienced and imagined as a kind of space within which personal, biographic and social cues and norms can be explored and interrogated. The interview possesses its own authenticity, therefore—true to the persons involved and true to their moment of interaction—whilst at the same time providing information on human capacities and proclivities that is generalizable beyond particular social and cultural contexts.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Angels are a basic tenet of belief in Islam, appearing in various types and genres of text, from eschatology to law and theology to devotional material. This book presents the first comprehensive study of angels in Islam, through an analysis of a collection of traditions (hadīth) compiled by the 15th century polymath Jalāl al-Dīn al-Suyūtī (d. 911/1505). With a focus on the principal angels in Islam, the author provides an analysis and critical translation of hadith included in al-Suyuti’s al-Haba’ik fi akhbar al-mala’ik (‘The Arrangement of the Traditions about Angels’) – many of which are translated into English for the first time. The book discusses the issues that the hadīth raise, exploring why angels are named in particular ways; how angels are described and portrayed in the hadīth; the ways in which angels interact with humans; and the theological controversies which feature angels. From this it is possible to place al-Suyūtī’s collection in its religious and historical milieu, building on the study of angels in Judaism and Christianity to explore aspects of comparative religious beliefs about angels as well as relating Muslim beliefs about angels to wider debates in Islamic Studies. Broadening the study of Islamic angelology and providing a significant amount of newly translated primary source material, this book will be of great interest to scholars of Islam, divinity, and comparative religion.
