Although initially different than Holmes, Hewitt also showed a number of interesting similarities as well... For many years, Martin Hewitt has been mostly forgotten, except in some Sherlockian circles, where it has long been theorized that he was a young Mycroft Holmes. However, recent evidence has come to light that Hewitt's adventures were - in fact - cases undertaken by a young Sherlock Holmes when he lived in Montague Street, several years before he would take up his legendary rooms in Baker Street with Watson. James Innes Watson, the great-great-grandson of Dr. John H. Watson has inherited all of the manuscripts of his forebear. These include stories, for whatever reason Watson never published. The Murdered Professor and The Bank Vault were withheld by Watson himself, The Assassination Plot because of its political nature. Conan Doyle advised that Holmes's tales should stay in Europe, and so Holmes in America was never published, the final tale The Haunted Stable was withheld with respect to Conan Doyle's spiritual beliefs. Now after more than a hundred years these lost tales are published. An Appendix is included of the chronology.

In their contributions the authors reflect upon Levý’s thinking on translation as a communication process and on Popovič’s insistence on the importance of re-creating a text both at the surface and deep levels. Examples are drawn from literary translation, technical translation, from audio-visual translation and from interpreting, and the authors point out that translators in all domains inevitably come up against linguistic, textual and other constraints, which, if they are to be resolved successfully, call upon a translator’s and interpreter’s strategies and creativity. The authors argue that this is the essence of professional decision-making in translation — according to Levý translation is a decision-making process — and that translation teachers should help students develop an understanding of translation strategies and of the vital role that creativity plays throughout the translation/interpreting process.
