Excerpt from The Holy Bible, Vol. 6: Containing the Old and New Testaments, to Which Is Prefixed an Introduction And I looked, and, behold, a whirlwind came out of the north, a great cloud, and a fire in folding itself, and a brightness was about it, and out of the midst thereof as the colour of amber, out of the midst of the fire. Also out of the midst thereof came the likeness of four living creatures. And this was their appearance; they had the likeness of a man. And every one had four faces, and every one had four wings. And their feet were straight feet; and the sole of their feet was like the sole of a calf's foot: and they sparkled like the colour of burnished brass. Excerpt from The Holy Bible, in the Authorized Version, Vol. 6: With Notes and Introductions; Daniel, the Minor Prophets, and Index Happily for the present age, the shafts of a sceptical criticism, which a few years ago were dis charged in a volley against the Book of Daniel, appear now to be almost spent. Its quiver seems to be empty. The attacks made upon this Book with much eagerness and activity have stirred up able champions3 of the Faith; and thus, by God's providence overruling evil for good, the assaults of Unbelief have been made the occasions and means of strengthening our belief in the Genuineness, Authenticity, and Inspiration of the Book of Daniel, and have secured to the Church those spiritual blessings which may be derived from a careful study of it. Originally there were no such things as chapters or verses in the Holy Scriptures. Let us go back to how it was and how it should be. Let us read the Holy Scriptures easily without any interruption of numbers. "The chapter divisions commonly used today were developed by Stephen Langton, an Archbishop of Canterbury. Langton put the modern chapter divisions into place in around A.D. 1227. The Wycliffe English Bible of 1382 was the first Bible to use this chapter pattern. Since the Wycliffe Bible, nearly all Bible translations have followed Langton's chapter divisions. The Hebrew Old Testament was divided into verses by a Jewish rabbi by the name of Nathan in A.D. 1448. Robert Estienne, who was also known as Stephanus, was the first to divide the New Testament into standard numbered verses, in 1555. Stephanus essentially used Nathan's verse divisions for the Old Testament. Since that time, beginning with the Geneva Bible, the chapter and verse divisions employed by Stephanus have been accepted into nearly all the Bible versions." -Gotquestions.org-
