The Image Of God Lost And Recreated

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This is a book that demonstrates how a person can get the image of God. Adam and Eve were created in the image of God but lost it. They were given freedom of choice. Unfortunately, they rejected God and chose the way of Satan, which has been passed on to all of us down through the centuries from parent to child. The Bible is accepted as truth. Every step of the way taken here is documented by the Bible. Scientific discoveries are introduced to form a basis for understanding and to compliment biblical references. Children born after Seth were born in the evil image of Adam and Eve. God was so deeply grieved by the evil intentions of Seth's descendants that he sent the flood to destroy all of mankind. Noah was favored by God, but even so, he was still of the lineage of Seth. The Old Testament is filled with the sinful acts of God's chosen children, but the faithful unchanging God had a plan which He brought to pass in the person of Jesus. This book provides a penetrating and dramatic picture of how God has implemented His plan to the present time.

Book For The Hour Of Recreation

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

María de San José Salazar (1548-1603) took the veil as a Discalced ("barefoot") Carmelite nun in 1571, becoming one of Teresa of Avila's most important collaborators in religious reform and serving as prioress of the Seville and Lisbon convents. Within the parameters of the strict Catholic Reformation in Spain, María fiercely defended women's rights to define their own spiritual experience and to teach, inspire, and lead other women in reforming their church. María wrote this book as a defense of the Discalced practice of setting aside two hours each day for conversation, music, and staging of religious plays. Casting the book in the form of a dialogue, María demonstrates through fictional conversations among a group of nuns during their hours of recreation how women could serve as very effective spiritual teachers for each other. The book includes one of the first biographical portraits of Teresa and Maria's personal account of the troubled founding of the Discalced convent at Seville, as well as her tribulations as an Inquisitional suspect. Rich in allusions to women's affective relationships in the early modern convent, Book for the Hour of Recreation also serves as an example of how a woman might write when relatively free of clerical censorship and expectations. A detailed introduction and notes by Alison Weber provide historical and biographical context for Amanda Powell's fluid translation.

High Way To Heaven The Augustinian Platform Between Reform And Reformation 1292 1524

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This volume reveals the political, religious, theological, institutional, and mythical ideals that formed the self-identity of the Augustinian Order from Giles of Rome to the emergence of Martin Luther. Based on detailed philological analysis, this interdisciplinary study not only transforms the understanding of Augustine's heritage in the later Middle Ages, but also that of Luther's relationship to his Order. The work offers a new interpretative model of late medieval religious culture that sheds new light on the relationship between late medieval Passion devotion, the increasing demonization of the Jews, and the rise of catechetical literature. It is the first volume of a planned trilogy that seeks to return late medieval Augustinian theology to the historical context of Augustinian religion.

The New Heavens And Earth Recreation Or Renovation

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

One of the most breathtaking prophecies in the Bible is the promise of the new heavens and earth. In that glorious day the widespread effects of the fall and the curse will be undone. Man will experience unbroken, utopian blessing in his eternal home. But how will the new heavens and earth come about? Will the current heavens and earth cease to exist and be replaced by a second ex nihilo creation as many Bible teachers insist? Or will the current earth be refurbished by earthquake and fire from heaven even as the last earth was refurbished by the flood? In this volume I present several arguments—such as historical precedent, the character of God, the eternality of the earth, and the eternal nature of the kingdom established at the second coming—which combine to make a formidable case that the new heavens and earth will be the current heavens and earth refurbished.

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book takes you on a journey that unpacks and demystifies what spiritual growth is and how it unfolds. The aim is to set you on your own path toward genuine, personal spiritual transformation. The book provides all the tools you need--biblical, scientific, and practical--so that you can develop your own pathway for spiritual growth. What is unique about Victor Copan's approach to spiritual growth is that he explores recent findings of brain research as well as scientific research on habit formation and brings them into conversation with the process of spiritual formation. Research on the brain and on habit formation has uncovered significant insights about the process and dynamics of human transformation that can be fruitfully incorporated into our own pursuit of spiritual transformation. Tapping into this research allows us to work in concert with how God designed humans to function--body, soul, and spirit.

The Human Condition

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Human beings are complex. For all our contemporary knowledge and ability, however wonderful and widely available, people around the world face a crisis of human identity that calls into question the meaning of existence and the basis of moral behaviour. Responding to these challenges, Joe Kapolyo recognizes both the authority of the Bible, which teaches that people are created in the image of God but also corrupted by rebellion and sin, and the relevance of distinctly African perspectives on what it means to be human. Although he reads these perspectives critically, they lead him to reaffirm the biblical vision of redeemed human life in community in Christ. This vision offers a solution to the crisis of identity experienced by people who have forgotten who they are - and whose they are.
