A unique blend of historical narrative and personal memoir, this is the powerful true story of seven young men, including the author’s father, who served in Bomber Command in World War Two. Based on a pilot’s logbook and years of research, this beautifully crafted historical exploration follows the young airmen through training and then vividly relates their experiences in almost sixty combat operations against targets in Germany and France. The story of their lives after returning home, including the burdens they carried with them, is told with empathy and compassion. The Job To Be Done is a compelling combination of original WW2 records and historical fact with thoughtful analysis and insights. Using unique maps, photographs, logbook pages and interviews and anecdotes, it crafts a deeply personal story that will resonate with fans of both military history and memoir. The Job To Be Done is a heartfelt tribute and a uniquely rewarding reading experience.

Every person is born with a deep longing for a father. Being Dad deals with the way fathers, and the subject of biblical fatherhood, are treated in modern culture. Dr. Keith brings his experience with family, students, great mentors, and friends to bear on a subject that is crying out for attention. Equally, he brings his Christian faith, a scholarly eye for detail, and an ear for story along on the journey and works with the reader to navigate a path to a better country where the Father blesses His children and is honored. Forgiven fathers are a gift from God, for they have the gospel to proclaim to their families. This approach leads to gracious fathers that can now display a shadow of the love of their Heavenly Father so that children may be drawn into saving faith.

Its a story you shouldnt be reading, its a personal journey that was originally written by a father for only his daughters eyes. Its an emotional story that shows how a father was brought to his lowest point in his life where he could see no return. But the father held on; his daughter was his vision, his daughter was what kept him going, and kept them both from harms way. Its all about a fathers love and devotion to his daughter, in a world where he struggles to grasp how parents can play games in aid to gain for themselves, in a world where fathers at times are pushed aside and their voices ignored and unheard, just like a childs, just like the life he lived. A father leaves his story for his daughter so she can understand in years to come, how he fought for her, how he gave up his life just so his daughter could be brought up in a normal way. Its now a fathers turn to speak up, to show his daughter and maybe the world how and why they have an unbreakable bond, to show how this bond has been tested and pushed to its limits. This story is for every person, for every mum for every dad who has a child they love, its for every person who has a parent they love and cherish because this story will make you fall in love with how a father loves his daughter and how far he will go to make sure she is fine. Its a story to show the world, nothing can beat the love of your child and nothing should, its a story he hopes will change the thinking of many people one day.

Absent fathers, the breakdown of the nuclear family, and single-mother households are often blamed for the poor quality of life experienced by many African American children. Jennifer F. Hamer challenges both the imposition of an inappropriate value system and the resulting ineffectual social policies. Most of what we know about fathers who do not live with their children is based on interviews with the mothers; this book is based on interviews with the fathers themselves. How do these fathers perceive their roles and responsibilities? This myth-shattering book challenges stereotypes of negotiating parenthood within the context of poverty, live-away status, and black American manhood. Hamer has collected the voices of eighty-eight men who participated in this study by first examining the macro or cultural elements that encompass men's daily lives. As part 1 explores these larger forces that define the social world of fathers, part 2 looks at what significant others expect of men as fathers and how they behave under these circumstances. Part 3 analyzes the particular parenting roles and functions of fathers, using narratives of individual men to tell their own stories. In this book, contemporary black live-away fathers talk about their goals, walk us through their workplaces, allow us to meet their families and children, and enable us to view the world of parenthood through their eyes.

Even while growing up in Southern California, Neville Abbott Jacobs believed that masters in mountain caves meditated for mankind. As her search for esoteric truths manifested, Jacobs eventually moved with her parents to Anchorage, Alaska, in 1949 where she learned about ancient Eskimo and Indian beliefs. But little did she know that some twenty-eight years later she would embark on an unusual spiritual and physical journey of understanding. In a fascinating account of two years of her life, Jacobs details how she first met Tibetan lama, the Nechung Rinpoche, on a mountain in Hawaii in 1977 and recognized him as her teacher from a former life. As the door opened for Jacobs to explore Tibet’s esoteric Buddhism, she reveals the unexpected adventures, paranormal surprises, Tibetan history, and marvels of ancient Asia that followed. Through easy conversation and dialogue, Jacobs entertains while conveying the deeper meaning of Buddhism and disclosing how her quest for answers eventually led her to cross paths with another master, the Dalai Lama. The Master on the Mountain shares the story of one woman’s pilgrimage across the seas, through jungles, and to the highest mountains in search of a greater spiritual path.
