BOOK EXCERPT:

For the first time in the history of the Church, this text assembles together into one handy volume the great majority of Joseph's first-person journal entries which are scattered throughout the seven-volume History of the Church among letter, revelations, notes, and numerous other documents. There has been no attempt to edit or condense any of Joseph's writings, although for the sake of brevity some entries of little historical significance have been omitted. Nothing of doctrinal or controversial nature has been left out.

The World War Ii Shipboard Journal Of Cpo Charles Joseph Sullivan

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

CPO Charles Joseph Sullivan was Chief Boatswain's Mate and Master-At-Arms onboard the Battleship USS Wisconsin (BB-64) for the duration of the ship's involvement in World War II. He kept a meticulous daily journal of all of the onboard activities that he observed. This book contains a transcript of his entire journal with key events annotated, including photographs from his personal collection. His journal starts when the Wisconsin departed the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard. After transiting the Panama Canal, the Wisconsin steamed to Pearl Harbor and beyond into some of the most important naval engagements of the war. CPO Sullivan saw his ship attacked by Japanese aircraft, including Kamikazes. The Wisconsin bombarded Formosa, Luzon, Okinawa, and the Japanese mainland. Sullivan was there the whole time - 105,831 miles worth and 1,562 sixteen-inch shells fired - from the day the Wisconsin was commissioned until the day she dropped anchor in Tokyo Bay at war's end. It's documented here, in his own words.

Memoirs Of Lieutenant Joseph Ren Bellot With His Journal Of A Voyage In The Polar Seas In Search Of Sir John Franklin

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Joseph Ren Bellot (1826-53) was a French naval officer whose travels took him from Africa to the Arctic before his tragic death at the age of 27. In 1851 he joined a British expedition to search for the missing explorer Sir John Franklin (1786-1847), whose expedition to find the North-West Passage was last heard of in July 1845. Although the voyage was unsuccessful in its search, it explored previously unknown areas of the Arctic. Bellot kept extensive notes about his journey in this remote region; they originally appeared in French in 1854 and were translated into English in 1855 and published in two volumes. Volume 1 contains a biography of Bellot, who was regarded as a hero in both France and Britain, and the first part of his journal, which describes the ship's departure from Scotland, their arrival in Greenland, and their encounters with the indigenous people there.

Joseph Holbrook Mormon Pioneer A Journal

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Joseph Holbrook, Mormon pioneer, spent the winter of 1846-1847 with his family and a group of 400 other Mormon refugees stranded on the Nebraska prairie until they were invited to winter with the Ponca Indians. This is a little known aspect of the Mormon Exodus west and while it is only one of the events recorded in his journal, it is indicative of the value of the insights of Holbrooks first-hand account of his life. During the Ponca period, Joseph Holbrook and two other men also explored a northern route west along the Niobrara River. They made it nearly to Fort Laramie before they determined the route was unsuitable and returned. After reporting their findings to Brigham Young, Young chose a southern route along the Platte. The Indian Winter and exploration trip are only two of the interesting accounts recorded by Joseph Holbrook in his journal. The authors insights add to the account of her ancestor, Joseph Holbrook to make a fascinating glimpse of an interesting period in American history.
