The mental basis for this book began 72 years ago when I was age 17. I wrote and defined the “Great Beyond” as my future from age 17. I asked the question, “Who am I?” I traced through the years the Miller genealogy to Adam and Eve. I defined a Broad Mentality as having knowledge of: The Bible, (One is illiterate without a knowledge of the greatest book of all time.), God, Man, Salvation from death, The Church, The Lord’s Day, God’s Kingdom, The Last Things (end of the world.), Social Order, War, Religious Liberty, The Family, and Education. (Learn from study and experiences, and for professionals meet their qualifications (Doctors, lawyers, ministers, teachers, etc.) Famous people travel. I have circled the earth seven times, traveled to Japan 40 times, to Pearl Harbor 25 times. I have driven thousands of miles in Europe, New Zealand, and Australia. “Study the world’s culture.” Learn the motto God gave us, “Faith, Hope, and Love”. My life is working and learning. Young person plan your life “NOW!” Thirty years in advance I planned a sabbatical every 10 years. I had three planned concurrent careers: Academic Neurosurgery, United States Naval Reserve, and founder of a Neuroscience Center with an interchange with 25 countries. I have performed 10,000 operations. God promises that learning will prolong your days. God will deliver and preserve His people for His Heavenly Kingdom. This book is for our family and friends. Our (Cathy and I) “Retirement Career” is at Top Speed, but I feel it slowing down. I have no more subjects in my mind to write about. I have authored 17 books. I am on the voluntary faculty at the medical school. I had Navy orders for 62 years (1952-2014). I was the first 80-year-old still drilling in the Navy Reserve. Having absorbed many books of wisdom such as the "Tao Te Ching" and "Secrets of the Great Pyramids", the author set out to turn the genre on its head with this title. Rather than presenting the same world-wise instructions on life, the author filters this material through his own experiences.

A Book about Books discusses what nonfiction books and subjects the author believes are important to know about. This book is volume I of III. Only the first volume is available at this time. The second volume is forthcoming and will be available in 2020. E.H. Bernstein is a former librarian turned author. The subtitle of the book describes the author’s objective: “A handbook in 3 parts to a choice of essential books, writers and subjects in order to understand the world we live in, about ‘big questions’ and possible answers, about books and writers that may improve people’s lives, about neglected writers, and other books and subjects.” A Book about Books attempts to share what the author has learned from nearly 50 years of nonfiction reading and to provide the reader with samples of the most important authors and subjects from that reading. While the book is based on research, it is intended to be a handbook or guide by trying to make that research understandable to the general reader and to students, and for teachers--by pointing to what the author believes is missing from today’s education. Note about how the volumes are related: each chapter is on a separate subject. So the chapters can be read individually, but the full message requires reading all the volumes. Volume I is important, but preliminary to the more important Volumes II and III. A future website, bookaboutbooks.com. is planned for later in 2019 and will include additional material not in the books. Note also that the book is not just about books, since other sources are also mentioned. This book tries to point to problems in how we live and to see if books have any answers.
