The Naked Truth Of A I

BOOK EXCERPT:

There is a new wave invading our space, promising to fundamentally alter the way we do everything, from everyday business, to how we interact socially. However, this is a very quiet revolution, for though all can clearly see things changing, yet it is not at all clear what it means, or what it is all leading to. Nevertheless, the implementation of this aEURoeBrave New WorldaEUR is being fostered upon us all, whether we notice it or not. What I am speaking of here is the innovation of modern technology and how it has influenced us in our perspectives, and how we live our everyday lives. We have indeed gone through these revolutions before, which have radically changed our lives; things like the industrial revolution, or the discovery and development of electricity, but with the introduction of aEURoeartificial intelligenceaEUR and the advancing of aEURoesmart machines,aEUR we are defiantly venturing uncharted seas. Throughout the evolution of technology, we have basically understood the machines we have made, but we are coming to a frontier where that is no longer true. We have created machines which perform tasks of which we do not completely understand, and this is only the beginning. There is a tremendous amount of good which has come of technology, but there is usually some negatives of unintended consequences which we must deal with after the fact. The dynamics of this new world coming upon us is extremely rapid, being driven by the economics, which leaves very little time for the consideration of those unintended consequences. This book is intended to provide the perspective in order to navigate the waters of the unknown, and to be able ride the waves of advancing technology, without being overcome by them.

The Naked Truth

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Millions of people who demanded mastery over their own bodies have been tragically duped. Everywhere you look, sex and sexuality are redefined, manipulated, twisted, and maligned. Terrified of being labeled “intolerant,” Christians have been silent while the world has spoken loudly. Well no more! Cynthia Garrett will not be silent. The sexual revolution offered us nothing but bondage. Feminism is an admittedly failed experiment. Yet we have always had the answer right under our noses. Unlike any other book on purity, Garrett boldly tackles these difficult topics to teach you that purity in your mind, body, and soul is about understanding true sexual freedom. The Naked Truth is that we will never be free until we share this message with each other, with our communities, and with our children. Because, if we are not speaking godly truth to this generation—ask yourself who is?

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book is for anyone with sincere doubts that their ancestor, to the 10020 degree, was a guppy. "DUDE, YOU’RE NUDE!" offers a thought-provoking and entertaining journey. Using "The Emperor's New Clothes" as a playful backdrop, this book dives into the heart of Darwinian debates with humor and incisive critique. Authored by a former aspiring marine biologist turned courtroom advocate, this narrative peels back the layers of scientific consensus to expose the unanswered questions beneath. With sharp wit, logic, and a dose of sarcasm, the author navigates from dinner table disputes to the core of scientific truths, dismantling the pillars of Darwinian evolution with clarity and simplicity. Drawing a parallel between the classic tale of The Emperor's New Clothes and the contemporary blind acceptance of Darwin's theory of evolution, the book presents a comedic yet provocative critique of the unwavering allegiance to Darwin’s theory of evolution and is a call to action challenging readers to boldly own the right to question and explore when faced with the current disturbing trend in education which shifted from encouraging inquiry to enforcing blind conformity. Whether you're a staunch believer in evolution or harboring doubts, "DUDE, YOU’RE NUDE!" promises a provocative and enlightening exploration. Embracing controversy, it dives headfirst into the tempest of scientific dogma, guided by common sense and everyday observations. Prepare for an intellectual awakening, a challenge to your convictions, and a spark to your natural curiosity. Join this audacious quest for truth, where the only thing more evident than the evidence is the stark nakedness of unchallenged scientific claims.

Seekers Of The Naked Truth

BOOK EXCERPT:

Why would I spend a good portion of my time over the last 35 years gathering information on the Gymnosophists? The story begins even earlier. As an undergraduate student in the Flint College of the University of Michigan, I pursued an English major with a strong history minor-always looking for something between the two, and rarely finding it. Then in my practice teaching, I happened into one of the early experimental high school courses in Interdisciplinary Humanities. With the exciting interrelationships between art, literature, music, philosophy and history, I said YES-this was what I had been looking for. So I pioneered in teaching high school Humanities for the next few years. Interdisciplinary Humanities was a bottom-up movement. Gradually, colleges began offering Masters programs to give teachers the rich background they needed. I decided I was not tied to Michigan where it was cold; I would find the best Masters program in Humanities anywhere in the world, and go there. Well, it turned out that the best Masters program in the world was at Wayne State University in Detroit, of all places. Unlike other programs that were really just double majors, Wayne offered truly interdisciplinary classes. Moreover, they offered an Eastern track and a Western track. Knowing that I would never find that Eastern track anywhere else, I studied interdisciplinary courses in the cultures of India, China, Japan, and Egypt. (The middle-eastern professor was on sabbatical when I was there.) I especially liked India-perhaps because I had already travelled around the world, and India impressed me the most.

Critiques Of Knowing

BOOK EXCERPT:

Critiques of Knowing explores what happens to science and computing when we think of them as texts. Lynette Hunter elegantly weaves together vast areas of thought: rhetoric, politics, AI, computing, feminism, science studies, aesthetics and epistemology. Critiques of Knowing shows us that what we need is a radical shake-up of approaches to the arts if the critiques of science and computing are to come to any fruition.

Poor Technology

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has moved in popular discourse from the purview of science-fiction imaginings to the key financial sector of the twenty-first century. As world powers, trillion-dollar companies, and public intellectuals emphasize the importance of AI, the general concerns people raise relate to economic movement, control, bias, and safety.?? This book adds a further concern, namely the way our approach to AI reinforces assumptions about dignity and personhood tied to the sort of thinking that is characteristic of bourgeois capitalists. The experience of poverty reveals that people who are poor do not think the same way as the upper classes--their experience of the world must be understood through the reality of survival within resource-scarce settings and the attendant domination and discrimination that come with being poor. These experiences do not fit well with the "ideal choice" selection model that underlies AI modeling, and numerous failures of AI to help the poor demonstrate that those who benefit primarily from AI are those who already live well.?? As a result, the fervor surrounding AI often serves to dehumanize the poor by eliminating employment opportunities, automating social work, reinforcing biases, and prioritizing profit over stability. Worst of all, however, AI functions to satisfy a psychological need for us to have "others" against whom we can distinguish ourselves without having to feel guilty about the reality of the struggle of the poor. Taking seriously the theological perspective of the "preferential option for the poor," this work contends that to avoid relegating poor people to nonhuman status, we must be willing to put aside the fantasy that AI is "intelligent" and focus rather on the all-too-human embodied reality of the poor.

Tv A Go Go

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

From Elvis and a hound dog wearing matching tuxedos and the comic adventures of artificially produced bands to elaborate music videos and contrived reality-show contests, television--as this critical look brilliantly shows--has done a superb job of presenting the energy of rock in a fabulously entertaining but patently "fake" manner. The dichotomy of "fake" and "real" music as it is portrayed on television is presented in detail through many generations of rock music: the Monkees shared the charts with the Beatles, Tupac and Slayer fans voted for corny American Idols, and shows like" Shindig! "and "Soul Train "somehow captured the unhinged energy of rock far more effectively than most long-haired guitar-smashing acts. Also shown is how TV has often delighted in breaking the rules while still mostly playing by them: Bo Diddley defied Ed Sullivan and sang rock and roll after he had been told not to, the Chipmunks' subversive antics prepared kids for punk rock, and things got out of hand when" Saturday Night Live "invited punk kids to attend a taping of the band Fear. Every aspect of the idiosyncratic history of rock and TV and their peculiar relationship is covered, including cartoon rock, music programming for African American audiences, punk on television, Michael Jackson's life on TV, and the tortured history of MTV and its progeny.
