The European Union and the US are currently negotiating the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP), with potentially enormous economic gains for both partners. Experts from the European Union and the US explore not only the groundwork laid for TTIP under the "New Transatlanticism," but also the key variables – economic, cultural, institutional, and political – shaping transatlantic policy outcomes. A Brookings Institution Press and the European Community Studies Association publication The European economic and monetary union has changed the structure of international monetary relations fundamentally. In this book two experts--one European, the other American--offer transatlantic perspectives on the ramifications of the monetary union and the launch of the euro. C. Randall Henning examines selected American views on Europe's monetary union, and looks at the political, economic, and institutional interests of the United States as they are affected by the creation of the euro. The return of Maori land to a productive role in the so-called Knowledge Economy entails the innovation and diffusion of technologies relevant to the sustainable development of this land. Sustainable development requires substantive changes to current land and resource use to mitigate environmental degradation and contribute to ecological and sociological resilience. This book takes concerns for cultural resilience that have arisen as political-economic strategies converge within the global New Economic Space and will show how the self-determined participation of Maori growers in this space can paradoxically lead to an expansion of the Traditional Economic Space of Maori. This expansion is directed by Maori cultural logics, located in Maori territories but seeking innovations from an amorphous 'core'. The interface between a global economy and the localities of a Maori cultural economy is defined by the interrogation of innovations, through the innovators. A malleable collectivity of actants passes through this porous interrogation border, enrolled by Maori as components of their resilience strategies and therefore the endurance of Maori culture.

This book analyzes how the EU referendum in the United Kingdom came to pass and what the foreseeable consequences are for the UK, Europe, US and world economy. The Brexit decision represents a momentous event for Europe, which weakens the EU and shifts the global balance of power. Welfens argues the EU has lost its appeal and is not in keeping with the twenty-first century, which is being shaped by Asia and digital innovations. The subject of immigration from EU countries played a key role in the Brexit decision, with an anti-EU campaign that was profoundly biased. The estimated impact of the referendum was deeply distorted by the broadly inadequate information produced by the Cameron government, which omitted the expected 10 percent loss in income caused by leaving the EU. With this this information, there could have been a clear pro-EU majority. In the absence of a second referendum, one cannot know what the British electorate really wants. Both the Brexit decision and new President of the United States Donald Trump's approach to European disintegration dynamics also raise serious questions about the future of transatlantic relations.

The post-World War II order of an Atlantic West based on common values emerged from a complex, conflict-ridden Atlantic history and established itself as a powerful actor in world politics.
