The Place Of God At The Bookends Of The Bible

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

What if everything in the Bible has a larger outer context than is usually accounted for? Missional and biblical theologies suggest that the Bible presents a grand story like a play with multiple acts. The acts typically include creation, fall, redemption, and finally restoration. But what if the whole story itself occurs in another larger setting, occurring within a mission running in the background throughout the whole Bible? How might this aid our research, reading, and application? And why is this being proposed now? This book explores these questions. The larger context is the production of the place of God—a home and homeland wherein God, with his people, dwell on earth. Since place is underdeveloped in biblical studies, the book presents a new method for interpreting place. Then the book lays out the case that a grand mission to produce the place of God becomes the outer context for the whole Bible. Finally, the book defends this proposal with an in-depth placial commentary of the bookends of the Bible, since these bookends provide keys to unlock this message, thereby inviting further study on the rest of the Bible and on the implications for this transformative perspective.

BOOK EXCERPT:

An accessible survey of the meaning, methodologies, themes, and applications of biblical theology To understand what the entire Bible teaches about any given subject, we must practice biblical theology. By surveying the whole canon of Scripture, we can best discern what God has revealed about any particular issue. But doing so requires answering a number of important questions: What type of biblical theology will we choose? What overall story does the Bible tell? How do we apply the truths we discover? 40 Questions About Biblical Theology provides resources to answer these key questions in order to guide readers in their own study and practice of biblical theology. Other vital topics the authors address include how to understand typology, key themes in biblical theology, and how Christians should relate to Old Testament promises. Ideal for courses on biblical theology, for pastors, and for anyone who teaches or interprets Scripture, 40 Questions on Biblical Theology will deepen your understanding and application of the whole counsel of God.

Biblical Themes

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

A BIBLE STUDY RESOURSE Dr. Stewart takes a bold new approach to Bible Study in his new book BIBLICAL THEMES. While most studies engage in the reinforcing of Christian dogma, Biblical Themes will give the reader a deeper understanding of Gods plan for the nation of Israel. You will learn just what Jesus meant and how the Pharisees understood the statement if these [the crowd] should hold their peace these stones would immediately cry out (Luke 19:40). This was not an off hand, meaningless statement. It was a declaration. In the Old Testament God set stones apart as a witness heap. You will learn the real reason why Abraham was willing to sacrifice Isaac and why God commanded him not to kill his son thereby abolishing human sacrifice. Dr. Stewart has chosen a wide variety of topics, people and places for you to explore thereby enriching your Biblical knowledge. In order to make for a lively Bible Study, a series of questions follow each topic. This is not a resource for the faint of heart as it deals with subject matter clergy prefer to ignore. Dr. Stewarts eye for detail sheds light on Gods never-ending love for creation and overwhelming desire to one day reign over a kingdom built on love. As in his first book, The Bible According to Jim, all exegetical work is done in Hebrew and Greek and not a series of English translations. If you want to enjoy a work that will truly engage you then this is the resource for you. You will also be engaged by the questions that follow each topic. Dr. Stewart guarantees they will make for a lively Bible Study.

Gospel Centered Counseling

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Everyone talks about the personal ministry of the Word, but how do we make one-another ministry truly biblical? Gospel-Centered Counseling equips readers to change lives with Christ’s changeless truth. It does so by examining life’s seven ultimate questions and then guiding readers on a journey that explores the biblical, gospel-centered narrative of: The Word: “What is truth?” “Where can I find answers?” The Trinity: “Who is God?” “Can I know Him personally?” Creation: “Who am I?” “What makes people tick?” Fall: “What went wrong?” “Why do we do the things we do?” Redemption: “Can I change?” “How do people change?” Glorification: “Where am I headed?” “How does our future destiny impact our present reality?” Sanctification: “How can I help?” “How can I change lives?" Bob Kellemen builds on the foundation of the written Word and provides a gospel-centered resource for understanding people, diagnosing problems, and prescribing biblically-based solutions. Gospel-Centered Counseling is the first volume in The Equipping Christian Counselors Series, a comprehensive relational training curriculum for the local church that provides a model for equipping God’s people to change lives with Christ’s changeless truth. This two-volume series weaves together comprehensive biblical insight with compassionate Christian engagement.

Gospel Conversations

BOOK EXCERPT:

How does a person learn to counsel others with the truth of God’s Word? Bob Kellemen believes that the best way to learn counseling is by doing it—by giving and receiving biblical counseling in the context of real, raw Christian community. Gospel Conversations explores the four compass-points of biblical counseling: Sustaining: “It’s Normal to Hurt.” Healing: “It’s Possible to Hope.” Reconciling: “It’s Horrible to Sin, but Wonderful to Be Forgiven.” Guiding: “It’s Supernatural to Mature.” These four compass points combine to equip readers to develop twenty-two ministry relational competencies—the “how to” of caring like Christ. This book serves as a practical training manual that can be used for lab and small group interaction. Gospel Conversations is the second volume in The Equipping Biblical Counselors Series, a comprehensive relational training curriculum for the local church that provides a model for equipping God’s people to change lives with Christ’s changeless truth. This two-volume series weaves together comprehensive biblical insight with compassionate Christian engagement.
