Polarity Intelligence

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Polarity Intelligence helps leaders overcome conflict, diverse perspectives, and persistent problems which is central to their success in all areas of life. After decades as trusted workplace leaders and organizational coaches, Dr. Tracy Christopherson and Michelle Troseth believe that the missing logic in leadership is a skill called Polarity Intelligence. Polarity Intelligence allows individuals to look at the world through a both/and lens to identify polarities that need to be leveraged, rather than only using an either/or lens and seeing all challenges as problems to be solved. By applying these insights, polarity intelligent leaders will be able to uncover the deeply held beliefs, values, and biases that are inhibiting their own, their team, and their organization’s growth, speeding up organizational change and creating long-term success.

Intramolecular Charge Transfer

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Bridging the gap between the multitude of advanced research articles and the knowledge newcomers to the field are looking for, this is a timely and comprehensive monograph covering the interdisciplinary topic of intramolecular charge transfer (ICT). The book not only covers the fundamentals and physico-chemical background of the ICT process, but also places a special emphasis on the latest experimental and theoretical studies that have been undertaken to understand this process and discusses key technological applications. After outlining the discovery of ICT molecules, the authors go on to discuss several important substance classes. They present the latest techniques for studying the underlying processes and show the interplay between charge transfer and the surrounding medium. Examples taken from nonlinear optics, viscosity and polarity sensors, and organic electronics testify to the vast range of applications. The result is a unique information source for experimentalists as well as theoreticians, from postgraduate students to researchers.

Signal Detection Theory

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Increasing the noise immunity of complex signal processing systems is the main problem in various areas of signal processing. At the present time there are many books and periodical articles devoted to signal detection, but many important problems remain to be solved. New approaches to complex problems allow us not only to summarize investigations, but also to improve the quality of signal detection in noise. This book is devoted to fundamental problems in the generalized approach to signal processing in noise based on a seemingly abstract idea: the introduction of an additional noise source that does not carry any information about the signal in order to improve the qualitative performance of complex signal processing systems. Theoretical and experimental studies carried out by the author lead to the conclusion that the proposed generalized approach to signal processing in noise allows us to formulate a decision-making rule based on the determi nation of the jointly sufficient statistics of the mean and variance of the likelihood function (or functional). Classical and modern signal detection theories allow us to define only the sufficient statistic of the mean of the likelihood function (or functional). The presence of additional information about the statistical characteristics of the like lihood function (or functional) leads to better-quality signal detection in comparison with the optimal signal detection algorithms of classical and modern theories.
