BOOK EXCERPT:
A family advocate and devout Christian, author David Fowler speaks with the voice of compassion as he outlines in terms of the two great commandments of Scripture how Christians should respond to the controversies of the day. As a former politician, practicing lawyer and policy analyst, he is in a unique position to offer insights on the politics of loving God and neighbor in a post-modern culture. As Fowler points out, contrary to popular opinion biblical love requires more than the live-and-let-live philosophy of today. And he beckons Christians to reckon love for God and neighbor as the basis upon which God once again makes America a beacon of light to others. The Politics of Loving God: Courageous Truths for Contentious Times speaks the truth in love to a nation that needs it.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Two friends of mine, Reverend Thurman Harris and Bishop Bill Dishman, inspired me to write this book. We would often talk of the differences in the theology of various churches on many topics. I tested some of these topics by the text in the Bible, looking to verify each viewpoint from their perspective. I tested these topics using the Bible verses in the way that they would apply them. By taking the Bible verses within their context, we can see if they are demonstrating support for their particular topical viewpoints. I have provided the Bible verses using the King James version. In some cases, I also provided commentaries on the Bible verses that may aid in their understanding. By writing this book, I realize that there will always be some people that will feel that their viewpoint is more correct in any case. The Bible, having been given to us by the Holy Spirit, is for two purposes: one to instruct us for spiritual growth, the second is how to seek and to save that which is lost leading them to salvation. But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. (2 Peter 3:18) For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. (Luke 19:10)

BOOK EXCERPT:
A comprehensive study of religious violence and aggression in Nigeria, notably its causes, consequences, and the options for conflict resolution. Violence in Nigeria is the most comprehensive study of religious violence and aggression in Nigeria, notably its causes, consequences, and the options for conflict resolution. After an analysis of the links between religionand politics, the book elaborates on all the major cases of violence in the 1980s and 90s, including the Maitatsine, Kano, Bauchi, Kaduna, and Katsina riots. Zones of religious tensions are identified, as well as general characteristics of violence in Nigeria; and issues in inter and intra-religious relations, relious organizations, and the states, and the main actors in the conflicts are explored in great detail. A product of extensive primary research, Violence in Nigeria makes a contribution to contemporary social and political history that no previous study has attempted, and it is written to appeal to specialists and non-specialists alike. Toyin Falola is the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities and University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin. He is the author or editor of over a dozen books dealing with the history of Nigeria, its people, their religion and politics.
