It's The End of The World as we Know It The coronavirus pandemic may not be apocalyptic, but it came at just the right time to shake the foundations of our increasingly unstable world and expose its problems. The World will change Permanently. When we do emerge from this pandemic, we will find a very new and different normal, a normal much less stable, and far more uncertain than it was before. * Will nations stay closed? * Will touch become taboo? * What will be the impact on our economy? * What about Social Life? * What we'll need to do differently to ride out the aftermath of COVID-19? We must be sure that when the next crisis hits, we're better prepared, or if possible, are even ahead of the curve enough to prevent it, or stop it quickly enough to minimize the damage. Bad things happened and will continue to happen. There's nothing we can do about that. But we can be ready and make ourselves much more resilient in the face of new diseases, economic downturns, and natural disasters. It's easy to panic and feel lost when the whole world is changing. A Picture Of What A Post Pandemic World May Look Like

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

If there was ever a period of uncertainty and a backlog of unanswered questions in recent memory, the years 2020 and 2021 have certainly been uncertain. What does the future hold for us after this pandemic? Has COVID-19 permanently changed our way of life? What is the long-term outlook for the global economy? In this book, I examine what medical experts, political leaders, and well-known futurists are saying with regard to these questions. Political polarization, fearmongering, and herd mentality are all great obstacles that must be dealt with in order to address the most pressing questions that the pandemic has given rise to. Should our leaders consider universal basic income (UBI) in the long run? How does transportation look in a post-pandemic society? How can we reduce the possibilities of such a pandemic from happening again? How can nations achieve the appropriate balance between public health and individual rights? Again, these are just a few questions that may arise as we move on from the worst days of the pandemic, and for most of these questions, there is no single, clear, and definite answer. It may be impossible to read the future, but it is possible to prepare for it by educating ourselves with data. In a time where political leaders seem to be driven more by partisanship over data-driven decision-making, the onus is on average citizens to steer their leaders towards practical and helpful legislative practices. With unstable financial markets, a global economy on fire, and speculations over the efficacy of vaccines, it is important to understand our current circumstances in order to present reasonable solutions. However dim the future may appear, creating a brighter reality must be a collective goal. Through this book, I hope to provide a clear picture of what the world looked like during the peak of the pandemic as well as a picture of what a post-pandemic world may look like.

The Post Pandemic Planet

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Covid-19 pandemic is wreaking widespread disruption, social and economic. Much more than what the Great Depression and the Second World War together did. Unfolding as humankind’s greatest challenge to date, the pandemic is rapidly altering the world, its politics and economics. In the process, turning upside down established relationships, accepted rules and prevalent norms. Though we cannot foretell with certainty what is in store, we can at least try to decode the telltale signs that are popping up all around us. The Post-Pandemic Planet does precisely that. This futuristic study examines the socio-cultural changes that are in the offing. It peeps through the prism of unfolding events to understand the possibilities that lie ahead. Among others, The Post-Pandemic Planet looks at how coercion-employing territorial states are changing and how the politico-cultural nation states are morphing. It tries to go into the reasons why our social lives are gradually getting colonised and why mysophobia will increasingly dictate the complexion of travel tomorrow. Is Covidisation of a new European Union a possibility? What happens to the concept of common markets now? Will the Marshalls and the Molotovs give way to the Merkels of the world? Will food nationalism degenerate into gastroracism? What colour the world health order is likely to take? How will the dissent-intolerant governments manipulate the privacy laws tomorrow? Why is the World Wide Web in the danger of turning into a World Narrow Web? Will jingoistic data localisation lead to digital dictatorships? These are among a score of questions you will find answered in The Post-Pandemic Planet. As a pandemic-threatened planetarian, you are sure to find them absorbing.

A Guide For A Post Pandemic World In 2030

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The world we are living in now is going through a significant change. Climate changes, an increase in the world's average temperature, extinction of species, melting of the ice caps, increased frequency and magnitude of earthquakes and stronger hurricanes, more regional fights among the children of God, economic warfare, etc., are just a few of the physical changes. There are more changes such as the emergence of new generations such as X, Y, Z, and recently Alpha. Political riots, religious oppositions, changes in macro-economic systems, the rise of artificial intelligence, etc. are making this process of change ever more complex.Ordo ab chao. This esoteric phare means order from chaos and points out the creative destruction process. The birth of a baby is probably the best example to explain it. The modern age which had started in 1789 A.D. with the French Revolution ended in 2020, marking the beginning of a brand-new age where unimaginable trends will shape up lives, our families, our children, our beliefs, our communities, our jobs, our mental climate, and our environment. Nothing will be the same anymore and there is no turning back.

The Political Economy Of Post Covid Life And Work In The Global South Pandemic And Precarity

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This edited volume highlights cascading effects of the pandemic and lockdown on informal economies of varied countries in the Global South. Uneven development after colonization, imperialism, and externally influenced conflict have caused many countries in the formally colonized or semi-occupied countries in the world to lag behind in wealth accumulation, investments in manufacturing, and technology. The fact that these countries were dragged into world market dynamics on an equal footing with already developed countries exacerbated these inequalities and saw the rapid burgeoning of informal economies. COVID-19 and the lockdown of western countries unravelled global production chains, resulting in hordes of workers in the Global South losing their livelihoods. Even people engaged in traditionally locally-bound economic activities, such as domestic work and sex work, found their livelihoods disappear. This volume brings together case studies from India, Brazil, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka to analyze global economic disruptions as they affected informal sector workers who were already largely invisible within state development policies. The chapters question whether existing models of neoliberal development are still conducive within the post-pandemic Global South as it grapples with rebuilding economies, livelihoods, institutions, and systems of governance.
