Normal 0 false false false MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 What is the meaning of life? Faith, Truth, and the Pursuit of Life: Poems of Hope and Love is a poetry collection which attempts to answer this universal question with an answer which takes many of us a lifetime to find, and even then, it is found by faith. We spend countless days of our brief existence on earth in search for an answer to this mysterious question; what is the meaning of life, the meaning of my life? The love we experience in our relationships give life meaning; we love one another with patience and sacrifice. Life is mysterious, but with Jesus, it makes sense. Without Him, life is selfish. Relationships crumble without the love of God in our hearts. To find the truth of love, we must have faith in something greater. So we seek. Often we find the answer to the meaning of life in the earth and the stars, or in ancient words and rituals from the people who lived before us, or inside of every human heart. Wherever we find the clues, they come together to form an answer, the answer which leads to God. The poems I share seek to answer the mysteries of life, and to consider the true way to live our relationships with others and with our Creator. I have pursued life, the hope for life eternal, and I have found the answer in the truth of Jesus. I hope my poems will inspire and motivate you to pursue the truth of life, and may God bless your journey with faith, hope, and love.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Faith and the Pursuit of Health explores how Pentecostal Christians manage chronic illness in ways that sheds light on health disparities and social suffering in Samoa, a place where rates of obesity and related cardiometabolic disorders have reached population-wide levels. Pentecostals grapple with how to maintain the health of their congregants in an environment that fosters cardiometabolic disorders. They find ways to manage these forms of sickness and inequality through their churches and the friendships developed within these institutions. Examining how Pentecostal Christianity provides many Samoans with tools to manage day-to-day issues around health and sickness, Jessica Hardin argues for understanding the synergies between how Christianity and biomedicine practice chronicity.

BOOK EXCERPT:
While retaining the basic structure of the original book, this new edition has been thoroughly updated in light of some official Catholic documents and other theological writings dealing with sexual morality that have appeared since 1986. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, Pope John Paul II's encyclicals Veritatis splendor and Evangelium vitae, and the 1986 and 1992statements of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on pastoral care of homosexuals and the issue of discrimination against them are among the more recent magisterial publications considered in this text. This edition also contains several new sections: the misuses of sex (adultery, pornography, prostitution, sexual violence); four rationales for viewing a committed love relationship as the only appropriate context for sexual intercourse; marriage as a sacrament and marital sexuality and love as embodiments of commitment, intimacy, and passion; and public policy and the civil rights of homosexuals. This edition also includes an expanded discussion of topics such as sexism, sexually transmitted diseases especially HIV/AIDS and the moral questions raised by new family-planning methods (Norplant, Depo-Provera), RU-486, postcoital hormonal interventions against pregnancy, the start of human life, and abortion. Vincent J. Genovesi, SJ, received his PhD in Christian ethics from Emory University. He is a professor at St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. His articles have appeared in such journals as The Thomist, The Way, America, and Review for Religious.
