The Spirit Says

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Spirit Says offers a stunning collection of articles by an influential assemblage of scholars, all of whom lend considerable insight to the relationship between inspiration and interpretation. They address this otherwise intractable question with deft and occasionally daring readings of a variety of texts from the ancient world, including—but not limited to—the scriptures of early Judaism and Christianity. The thrust of this book can be summed up not so much in one question as in four: o What is the role of revelation in the interpretation of Scripture? o What might it look like for an author to be inspired? o What motivates a claim to the inspired interpretation of Scripture? o Who is inspired to interpret Scripture? More often than not, these questions are submerged in this volume under the tame rubrics of exegesis and hermeneutics, but they rise in swells and surges too to the surface, not just occasionally but often. Combining an assortment of prominent voices, this book does not merely offer signposts along the way. It charts a pioneering path toward a model of interpretation that is at once intellectually robust and unmistakably inspired.

When The Spirit Says Sing

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

In the late 1950s and early 1960s, such songs as "We Shall Overcome," "Keep Your Eyes on the Prize," and "Do What the Spirit Says Do" were sung at virtually every mass meeting, demonstration, and planning session of Civil Rights activists. They were sung on the Freedom Rides, during the marches, and in jail cells of the South. Movement activists have commented frequently and eloquently on the ways that singing and songs gave them strength and a sense of self. This study offers a close analysis of the lyrics of the songs most central to the Civil Rights Movement, with an eye to understanding the songs as self-persuasion. In the songs, the activists defined themselves and their world, and reinforced a plan of action for their participation in the Movement. This analysis of the freedom songs is set in the context of Movement history and supported with commentary from activists and background information on Movement activities. In addition, this study offers readers insights into the moving and inspiring power of the freedom songs.

The Great Spirit Says

BOOK EXCERPT:

The Great Spirit Says: A Rainbow Warriors Journey is a spiritual and detailed account of a personal shamanic journey to the universal mind. Drawing upon her life-changing out-of-body experience, author Jeanette Sacco-Belli shares how, through connecting to the eternal spiritual realm, we become free from the fear of death and the unknown, and can experience an elevated state of pure ecstasy and joy. She conveys how the power of the mind, when unconfined by time or space, has the ability to connect to the voice of unity. This oneness contains the ancient knowledge of our existence. When we allow the silence of nature and its wisdom to heal us, we become connected to our highest self, elevating personal growth and human evolution. Separateness is only an illusion. When we hear from our inner ears and see with our inner eyes we are then awake, and know that there is only one universal voice, one God, one mind, one spirit.

The Spirit Said Go

BOOK EXCERPT:

"God's got a plan for your life" is an aphorism frequently heard by Christians. But how do you discover that plan? The Spirit Said Go is designed to help believers find God's will. Using Paul's journeys in Acts as examples, Wilson discusses twenty lessons on guidance drawn from these journeys. Using his firsthand experience traveling along these routes in the Eastern Mediterranean, he reads between the lines offering additional insights into Luke's account. He also provides important geographical and archaeological information to illustrate Paul's world among the Jews, Greeks, and Romans. Wilson then illustrates each lesson with autobiographical vignettes drawn from his own spiritual pilgrimage of over forty years as a follower of Jesus. Friends and colleagues also share stories of similar experiences of guidance. Each chapter ends with reflection questions that help the reader integrate the lesson into Christian living. Because Spirit Said So

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Because Spirit Said So was inspired by and sometimes dictated by spirits. The author wrote these plays while in an altered state of consciousness mostly between the hours of midnight and 4AM. Her world is a quieter place during that time of the night. Vehicular traffic is almost non-existent, phones are not ringing, dogs are not barking and most importantly her husband and her cats are sound asleep. Claire will introduce you to her world standing at the edge of the veil. She will help you to experience the emotions transmitted from the Spirit World. Sometimes our loved ones who have crossed over are passionately trying to right wrongs committed in their last lifetime. Sometimes they just want us to know that life continues beyond the mortuary icebox. The play The Table gives us the most wonderful news of all; our loved ones can still communicate with us. The Foundation is the story about a murdered peddler in upstate New York. This play is written from the eyes of the victim, Charles osna. Charles sold sewing fabrics and needlework trinkets door to door in 1848. Bad weather and physical exhaustion led him into a false sense of security. He passionately wanted to bring his murderer to justice. This is a true story. Your author combed the archives of the Lily Dale Library and the 1848 newspaper microfiche in the Rochester, NY library searching for proof. She researched census records and inspected numerous graveyards; but, the very best information came from the spirit rapper himself.
