The Triple Helix

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The triple helix of university–industry–government interactions is a universal model for the development of the knowledge-based society, through innovation and entrepreneurship. It draws from the innovative practice of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) with industry and government in inventing a regional renewal strategy in early 20th-century New England. Parallel experiences were identified in “Silicon Valley,” where Stanford University works together with industry and government. Triple helix is identified as the secret of such innovative regions. It may also be found in statist or laissez-faire societies, globally. The triple helix focuses on “innovation in innovation” and the dynamic to foster an innovation ecosystem, through various hybrid organizations, such as technology transfer offices, venture capital firms, incubators, accelerators, and science parks. This second edition develops the practical and policy implications of the triple helix model with case studies exemplifying the meta-theory, including: • how to make an innovative region through the triple helix approach; • balancing development and sustainability by “triple helix twins"; • triple helix matrix to analyze regional innovation globally; and • case studies on the Stanford's StartX accelerator; the Ashland, Oregon Theater Arts Clusters; and Linyi regional innovation in China. The Triple Helix as a universal innovation model can assist students, researchers, managers, entrepreneurs, and policymakers to understand the roles of university, industry, and government in forming and developing “an innovative region,” which has self-renewal and sustainable innovative capacity.

The Triple Helix The Soul Of Bioethics

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Lisa Bellantoni argues that contemporary bioethics divides into two logically incommensurable positions: a cult of rights, which identifies the worth of human life with our autonomy, and a cult of life, which identifies human worth with the possession of a soul, and thereby, of human dignity.

BOOK EXCERPT:

One of our most brilliant evolutionary biologists, Richard Lewontin here provides a concise, accessible account of what his work has taught him about biology and about its relevance to human affairs. In the process, he exposes some of the common and troubling misconceptions that misdirect and stall our understanding of biology and evolution.

Theory And Practice Of The Triple Helix Model In Developing Countries

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Theory and Practice of Triple Helix Model in Developing Countries contributes to the expanding literature on "triple helix" innovation - focusing on developing countries. The book is based on practical cases and experiences from Africa, Latin America and Asia. Relevant experiences and best practices from developed countries are also examined. The book is presented as a response to the growing awareness about the need for policy shift from the traditional technology transfer practice to a policy position that is capable of providing a sustainable basis for innovation and technological progress in developing countries. The book explores the triple helix system of innovation based on the dynamics of the interactive relationships between government, industry and universities in the creation, dissemination and sharing of knowledge in developing countries. A major point addressed by the book is the extent to which the ‘triple helix’ system of relationships between university, industry and government can enhance the effectiveness of universities in developing countries as agents of innovation, industrialization and sustainable development.

The Eternity Beyond The Triple Helix

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Victor Henigan takes us on a unique journey from our world, down into the micro world of the atom, and beyond into the very realm of the architectural source of creation and on to Eternity. The Triple Helix published in the year 2000, is reviewed and visionary corrections are made based on NASA's 'WMAP' space probe. Following, he moves to define string theory at a level that is unique and quite understandable. Presenting a number of proofs for his farsighted prediction's, he follows with a sacred visionary writing that was written some fifty years ago, ending in eternity itself. Author Henigan, now in his eighties, is retired following a sixty year carrier in church music, during which he served many churches in the San Francisco bay area' sometimes as choir director, other times as organist, and many times as tenor soloist. For seven years in the sixties, as choir director at the Woodside Road United Methodist Church, he produced two beautiful recording albums of sacred music, 'Revelation' and 'Glory.' In addition to his church carrier, he was a member of the Orpheum Male Chorus, for ten years, and tenor soloist for the Sonoma County Men's Chorus, during the lifetime of the chorus under its founder. His musical studies include nine years of piano, one year of organ, and seven years of voice. In this effort we realize, as stated in 'The Witness of The Animation' that: All creation is housed within and upon a structure which in its true and pure existence is not given to structural form. The natural activity within and upon this existence is divine residence. That which exists within it in a state of natural activity is so flexible that it no longer remains in structural form. That which exists within it in a state of unnatural activity is in structural form. Man is in the image, or unnatural structural form, while God is in the natural existence.

Proceedings Of The Ii International Triple Helix Summit

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This volume gathers the latest advances and innovations in the triple helix of university-industry-government relations, as presented by leading international researchers at the II International Triple Helix Summit 2018, held in Dubai, UAE on November 10-13, 2018, which brought together experts, practitioners and academics across disciplines that address the dynamics of government, industry and academia. It covers analysis, theory, measurements and empirical enquiry in all aspects of university-industry-government interactions, as well as the international bases and dimensions of triple helix relations, their impacts, and social, economic, political, cultural, health and environmental implications. It also examines the role of government/academia/industry in building innovation-based cities and nations, and in transforming nations into knowledge-based sustainable economies. The contributions, which were selected by means of a rigorous international peer-review process, highlight numerous exciting ideas that will spur novel research directions and foster multidisciplinary collaboration among different specialists.

Triple Helix Forming Oligonucleotides

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

Sequence-specific DNA binding ligands, amongst which triple helix forming oligonucleotides are the most efficient as yet, represent promising tools in a number of fields. One of their most promising applications is as antiviral tools: they can specifically target a viral gene, even if it is integrated into the host genome, and be used to specifically inactivate the viral gene or even destroy the cells harboring this gene. However, from science fiction to science there remains a gap; and we are at the moment on the threshold of this fascinating field. Triple Helix Forming Oligonucleotides considers the different aspects of the design and improvement, current or future, of these molecules and their structural analysis, as well as their applications, with special emphasis on the attempts to obtain biological effects of these potentially important tools. What emerges is that the current state of the research is encouraging, and that these molecules are already useful in some biotechnology applications.
