BOOK EXCERPT:
There are many books available covering the Training Within Industry (TWI) programs, but few include any unique material on adaptation or modification – This dearth of new has caused practitioners to alter the programs without understanding the underlying principles. These changes have made the programs less effective. One must, however, maintain the principles used in the programs when changing the delivery of the programs to suit the culture. The purpose of The TWI Facilitator's Guide: How to Use the TWI Programs Successfully is to prevent the TWI programs from falling into misuse and disuse. This book will explain the main principles of the TWI programs and what they can accomplish, but it will also stress what they are not. This book reviews what the programs are and then explains how to use them. It tells why we do certain aspects of each program. When we know why we do something, we won’t stop doing it for the wrong reason.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The aim of the Council of Europe's youth policy is to provide young people - girls and boys, young women and young men - with equal opportunities and experience which will enable them to develop the knowledge, skills and competencies to play a full part in all aspects of society. The programme of activities aims at associating young people, through governmental and non-governmental youth partners, with the aims and priorities of the youth policy of the Council of Europe. The participants in the education and training activities are multipliers who, within their youth organisations or institutions, are involved in training other young people and/or in designing activities and programmes that put into practice the values, standards and objectives that preside over the youth policy of the Council of Europe. The use of non-formal learning principles is combined with experiential learning approaches, the most apt at making the learning experiences meaningful and relevant. Activities are implemented in accordance with quality standards agreed with partners of and participants in the activities. The quality of these activities depends, to a large extent, on the competences and abilities of the facilitators of these educational processes, many of whom are volunteers within youth and community organisations. This manual was developed in order to support them in that role, particularly when they are part of the educational teams of study sessions at the European Youth Centre. The manual provides essential information and practical tips for all who are involved in planning and delivering non-formal education intercultural activities on an occasional basis. This manual is part of the endeavour of the Council of Europe's youth sector to support and develop the quality of non-formal education activities across Europe and, in doing so, contribute to further their recognition.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Most organizations are adept at using small groups - witness the widespread use of teams. Yet, how do you work with 20 to 500 people at a time? How would you involve all stakeholders in a critical issue or the organization's future? How can you generate contributions, consensus and commitment from the bottom up? People want to contribute but often are frustrated through a lack of opportunity or means. Large Group Processes allow people to participate over things that matter to them. Participation leads to commitment and commitment to ownership. Working with large groups is relatively new, but these processes are proving very effective with positive outcomes. Audiences can be customized with stakeholders who might be inside or outside the organization, such as employees, customers, suppliers, shareholders, the general public and any other interested parties. Applications are wide-ranging, touching on almost every aspect of organizational life. The Large Group Facilitator's Manual offers you a blueprint for planning, preparing, running and reporting successful large group events. The authors walk you through six different processes from concept to step-by-step facilitation with sample invitations, checklists and even scripts. It is the first facilitator's guide to cover so many processes with such detailed instructions.

BOOK EXCERPT:
Contemporary mass media descriptions of Muslims often suggest that Islam and Muslims are fundamentally undemocratic. Policy-makers in the West have weaponized these descriptions in attempts to legitimize anti-Muslim right-wing policy developments across the West and in the United States in particular, from surveillance in the aftermath of 9/11 to the anti-Islamic travel ban of 2017. But are Muslims undemocratic? Ahmed Khanani argues that this is not the case. In All Politics are God's Politics, Khanani shows that in fact, the opposite holds true: for socially conservative, politically active Muslims (Islamists), democracy or dimuqrāṭiyya reflects and extends their religious values. By drawing on conversations with over 100 Islamists in Morocco, this book enables readers to understand and appreciate the significance of dimuqrāṭiyya as a concept alongside new prospects for Islam and democracy in the Arab Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Khanani's in-depth analysis of the Moroccan case brings these Islamists and their attending political views to the forefront.
