BOOK EXCERPT:
This comprehensive, up-to-date textbook offers detailed coverage of venous anatomy, pathophysiology, imaging, and management of venous pathology, leading the practitioner through all aspects of care of the venous patient. The various techniques that have revolutionized the diagnosis and treatment of venous disease during the past decade are all discussed, with clear guidance on their indications and performance. The book is exceptional in being based entirely on the curriculum designed for board certification by the American College of Phlebology. A further unique aspect of the text is the integration of ultrasound, which now plays a fundamental role in diagnosis and management. The authors come from a wide range of specialties and the book will accordingly serve the needs of vascular and general surgeons, interventional radiologists, phlebologists, ultrasonographers, and other practitioners, as well as those preparing for board examinations.

WINNER OF THE DAYTON LITERARY PEACE PRIZE 2017 Reina Castillo's beloved brother is serving a death sentence for a crime that shocked the community - a crime for which Reina secretly blames herself. When she is at last released from her seven-year prison vigil, Reina moves to a sleepy town in the Florida Keys seeking anonymity. There, she meets Nesto, a recently exiled Cuban awaiting with hope the arrival of the children he left behind in Havana. Through Nesto's love of the sea and capacity for faith, Reina comes to understand her own connections to the life-giving and destructive forces of the ocean that surrounds her as well as its role in her family's troubled history. Set in the vibrant coastal and Caribbean communities of Miami; the Florida Keys; Havana, Cuba; and Cartagena, Colombia, The Veins of the Ocean is a wrenching exploration of what happens when life tests the limits of compassion, and a stunning and unforgettable portrait of fractured lives finding solace in the beauty and power of the natural world, and in one another.

BOOK EXCERPT:
It is a privilege and pleasure to write a foreword to this work. Who, twenty years ago, would have thought that a whole book could be devoted to the veins of the posterior fossa? Even today the standard text-books of anatomy only give a paragraph to the subject. Thanks to the dedicated work of rather a few neuroradiologists our knowledge has now reached a very sophisticated level. The careful correlation of anatomical dissection with the angiographic image has achieved this, but without the aid of subtraction (discovered by a world figure in neuroradiology - Professor ZIEDSES DES PLANTES) the subject would not be as advanced as it is. The authors are to be congratulated not only for presenting the most up to date anatomical information but also for showing how wide the applications are in the clinical field by the careful analysis of displacements of veins, many of which were quite unrecognised only a very few years ago. Drs W ACKENHEIM and BRAUN are in the forefront of this discipline to which they and the French school have contributed so much. Also it was their great enthusiasm and drive which led to the birth of the European Society of Neuroradiology, the first meeting of which was held in Colmar in September 1969. The Society has flourished under their guidance and very successful annual meetings have been held for nearly a decade.
