This book treats several topics in matrix theory not included in its predecessor volume, Matrix Analysis.

Matrix Analysis presents the classical and recent results for matrix analysis that have proved to be important to applied mathematics.

The main purpose of this monograph is to report on recent developments in the field of matrix inequalities, with emphasis on useful techniques and ingenious ideas. Among other results this book contains the affirmative solutions of eight conjectures. Many theorems unify or sharpen previous inequalities. The author's aim is to streamline the ideas in the literature. The book can be read by research workers, graduate students and advanced undergraduates.

Using an approach that author Alan Laub calls "matrix analysis for grown-ups," this new textbook introduces fundamental concepts of numerical linear algebra and their application to solving certain numerical problems arising in state-space control and systems theory. It is written for advanced undergraduate and beginning graduate students and can be used as a follow-up to Matrix Analysis for Scientists and Engineers (SIAM, 2005), a compact single-semester introduction to matrix analysis for engineers and computational scientists by the same author. Computational Matrix Analysis provides readers with a one-semester introduction to numerical linear algebra; an introduction to statistical condition estimation in book form for the first time; and an overview of certain computational problems in control and systems theory. The book features a number of elements designed to help students learn to use numerical linear algebra in day-to-day computing or research, including a brief review of matrix analysis, including notation, and an introduction to finite (IEEE) arithmetic; discussion and examples of conditioning, stability, and rounding analysis; an introduction to mathematical software topics related to numerical linear algebra; a thorough introduction to Gaussian elimination, along with condition estimation techniques; coverage of linear least squares, with orthogonal reduction and QR factorization; variants of the QR algorithm; and applications of the discussed algorithms.

Since the beginning of the 21st century, there has been an explosion in startup organizations. Together, these organizations have been valued at over $3 trillion. In 2019, alone, nearly $300 billion of venture capital was invested globally (Global Startup Ecosystem Report 2020). Simultaneously, an explosion in high volume and high velocity of big data is rapidly changing how organizations function. Gone are the days where organizations can make decisions solely on intuition, logic, or experience. Some have gone as far as to say that data is the most valuable currency and resource available to businesses, and startups are no exception. However, startups and small businesses do differ from their larger counterparts and corporations in three distinct ways: 1) they tend to have fewer resources, time, and specialized training to devote to data analytics; 2) they are part of a unique entrepreneurial ecosystem with unique needs; 3) scholarship and academic research on human capital data analytics in startups is lacking. Existing entrepreneurship research focuses almost exclusively on macro-level aspects. There has been little to no integration of micro- and meso-level research (i.e., individual and team sciences), which is unfortunate given how organizational scientists have significantly advanced human capital data analytics. Unlike other books focused on data analytics and decision for organizations, this proposed book is purposefully designed to be more specifically aimed at addressing the unique idiosyncrasies of the science, research, and practice of startups. Each chapter highlights a specific organizational domain and discuss how a novel data analytic technique can help enhance decision-making, provides a tutorial of said regarding the data analytic technique, and lists references and resources for the respective data analytic technique. The volume will be grounded in sound theory and practice of organizational psychology, entrepreneurship and management and is divided into two parts: assessing and evaluating human capital performance and the use of data analytics to manage human capital.

The relationship between research, on the one hand, and policy/practice on the other hand, is complicated and collaboration between scholars in research on higher education (RHE) and institutional research (IR) practitioners is often lacking. This book marks a collaborative effort of a diverse range of South African RHE and IR scholars and asks the overarching questions: What do we know about the utilisation of South African research on higher education (SARHE) and its subset of research known as Institutional Research? How and by whom is this research used? The book begins by looking at the historical underpinnings of SARHE and delineating the shape and size of this body of research. This is followed by a series of case studies on South African Higher Education institutions and governmental bodies, investigating how, when and by whom are research on higher education and institutional research used in the decision-making of these organisations. This book is the first of its kind in South Africa and sets out to lay the groundwork for further research into the use, uptake and utilisation of RHE and IR in this country.
