The fifteenth-century travel regimen entitled al-Isfār ʿan ḥikam al-asfār (‘The unveiling of the wisdoms of the books’) written by the Cairene jurist-physician Ibn al-Amshāṭī (d. 1496) is an interesting example of the postclassical medical literature. It includes, besides a travel regimen (written likely as a health guide for the pilgrimage to Mecca), a short pharmacopoeia of single and compound remedies deemed useful for the traveller. The work was composed for Kamāl al-Dīn al-Bārizī (d. 1452), the head of the Mamluk Chancery. The Arabic edition, English translation, and commentary of this text are framed by a detailed introductory study of the Arabic-language tradition of travel regimens and various medico-pharmacological glossaries.

The eviction at Dale Farm in the UK in 2011 brought the conflicting issues relating to Gypsy and Traveller accommodation to the attention of the world's media. However, as the furore surrounding the eviction has died down, the very pressing issues of accommodation need, inequality of access to education, healthcare and employment, and exclusion from British (and European) society is still very much evident. Almost 50 million persons visit another continent each year. It is mainly those 15-18 million travelers from industrialized nations who visit or reside in developing countries that are at increased health risk. To develop effective health protection advice, the health risks of travel and the benefits of prophylaxis (vaccines, new and old drugs, behaviour modification, etc.) should be assessed systematically. The purpose of this book is to improve the protection of the travelers' health by more effective and more uniform recommendations. It contains many data on recent research and represents the first comprehensive account on travel medicine for professionals.

The Committee's report examines the provision and management of Gypsy and Traveller sites within England, focusing on the following aspects: current provision and location of sites; demand for, and use of sites; existing funding arrangements; the Gypsy Site Refurbishment Grant scheme; site characteristics and facilities; management of unauthorised camping; and ODPM statistical information on caravans, sites and families. The Committee's report notes the contradictory views held about Gypsies and Travellers, and the public opposition to their encampment in local areas for fear, whether real or not, of crime and anti-social behaviour. In light of this, the report seeks to assess the extent of problems faced both by Gypsies and Travellers and the settled community, and suggests ways to reduce the conflict, misery and nuisance being caused. Recommendations made include, due to the lack of sites available, that the Government should re-introduce a statutory requirement for local authorities to provide suitable accommodation, based on an assessment of need at regional level, and funded through a capital grant.
