This volume contains proceedings of the conference on Trends in Banach Spaces and Operator Theory, which was devoted to recent advances in theories of Banach spaces and linear operators. This volume contains the proceedings of the workshop on Recent Trends in Operator Theory and Applications (RTOTA 2018), held from May 3–5, 2018, at the University of Memphis, Memphis, Tennessee. The articles introduce topics from operator theory to graduate students and early career researchers. Each such article provides insightful references, selection of results with articulation to modern research and recent advances in the area. Topics addressed in this volume include: generalized numerical ranges and their application to study perturbation of operators, and connections to quantum error correction; a survey of results on Toeplitz operators, and applications of Toeplitz operators to the study of reproducing kernel functions; results on the 2-local reflexivity problem of a set of operators; topics from the theory of preservers; and recent trends on the study of quotients of tensor product spaces and tensor operators. It also includes research articles that present overviews of state-of-the-art techniques from operator theory as well as applications to recent research trends and open questions. A goal of all articles is to introduce topics within operator theory to the general public.

This second volume of Analysis in Banach Spaces, Probabilistic Methods and Operator Theory, is the successor to Volume I, Martingales and Littlewood-Paley Theory. It presents a thorough study of the fundamental randomisation techniques and the operator-theoretic aspects of the theory. The first two chapters address the relevant classical background from the theory of Banach spaces, including notions like type, cotype, K-convexity and contraction principles. The first book to assemble the wide body of theory which has rapidly developed on the dynamics of linear operators. Written for researchers in operator theory, but also accessible to anyone with a reasonable background in functional analysis at the graduate level.

Famed mathematician Alexander Grothendieck, in his Resume, set forth his plan for the study of the finer structure of Banach spaces. He used tensor products as a foundation upon which he built the classes of operators most important to the study of Banach spaces and established the importance of the "local" theory in the study of these operators and the spaces they act upon. When Lintenstrauss and Pelczynski addressed his work at the rebirth of Banach space theory, they shed his Fundamental Inequality in the trappings of operator ideals by shedding the tensorial formulation. The authors of this book, however, feel that there is much of value in Grothendieck's original formulations in the Resume and here endeavor to "expose the Resume" by presenting most of Grothendieck's arguments using the mathematical tools that were available to him at the time.

This proceedings volume originates from a conference held in Herrnhut in June 2013.
