How charter schools have taken hold in three cities—and why parents, teachers, and community members are fighting back Charter schools once promised a path towards educational equity, but as the authors of this powerful volume show, market-driven education reforms have instead boldly reestablished a tiered public school system that segregates students by race and class. Examining the rise of charters in New Orleans, Chicago, and New York, authors Raynard Sanders, David Stovall, and Terrenda White show how charters—private institutions, usually set in poor or working-class African American and Latinx communities—promote competition instead of collaboration and are driven chiefly by financial interests. Sanders, Stovall, and White also reveal how corporate charters position themselves as “public” to secure tax money but exploit their private status to hide data about enrollment and salaries, using misleading information to promote false narratives of student success. This collection is the first of its kind, bringing together Holocaust educational researchers as well as school and museum educators from across the globe, to discuss the potentials of Holocaust education in relation to primary school children. From 1995 to 2009 a long period has been passed but being a continuous process secondary level Social Science curriculum being unchanged yet. The study was an effort to explore the secondary school Social Science curriculum of Bangladesh with regard to the present needs. In 2010 the Education Network organized an event that examined the state of school infrastructure in the region and the financial role of the private sector. Infrastructure and Learning in the Twenty-First Century was held in Santiago, Chile, on October 26 and 27, 2010. This book contains the presentations made at the conference, edited and, in some cases, revised for publication. The chapters of the book follow the conference agenda, which focused on designing, financing, building, and maintaining school buildings.
