Unlocking The Palestinian Israeli Negotiations

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

This book offers a critical review of contemporary literature on the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations. Its goal is to highlight the shortcomings of the methods that have been used to date to analyse the underlying causes that have led to a stalemate in the negotiation process. Further, it pursues an approach that considers the multiple factors that can influence the outcomes of the negotiation process. The book represents a substantial academic contribution to the field of conflict resolution by broadening the scope of the analytical framework that is needed to analyse the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, and bridging the gap between theory and practice. Accordingly, it offers a valuable asset for researchers and students interested in political theory, Middle Eastern studies, international relations, conflict resolution studies, political science, negotiation theory, and contemporary Arab studies and Israeli studies.

Think Palestine

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

It is clearly obvious that, in the United States, limits are imposed on the Palestinians right to speak, on what the Palestinians could or should not say. Platforms for an impartial Palestinian discourse were extremely narrow to begin with, and when any was available, Palestinians hardly took center stage. For that purpose, Dr. Effarah kept writing weekly articles in Arabic and English for the last twenty-six years with one objectiveThink Palestine. This third volume includes unpublished articles for the last three years (20122015); volume 1 includes the published articles from 2001 to 2006, while volume 2 includes articles from 2007 to 2012. Dr. Effarah believes that the media discrepancies are far more pronounced. The moral crisis in mainstream Western media on the subject of Palestine requires volumes, and much has indeed been written about it. His writings are based on developing events that took place in the last seventy years of his own experience since he was uprooted from his home in Haifa, Palestine, in 1948, along with his community; such change in his life caused him to be involved in the politics of the Middle East. Dr. Effarahs articles on Think Palestine have a propensity to find solutions to the Palestinian dilemma while waiting for a form of a peaceful settlement between the Palestinians and the Israelis. The struggle in Palestine requiresand in fact, demandsglobal solidarity, a critical mass of a support base that is enough to turn the tide against the violent Israeli occupation, incorporating governments and companies that currently support, sustain, and bankroll Israels daily crimes against Palestinians. There were not enough Palestinian intellectuals around to speak for themselves and are capable of enunciating the Palestinian experience or that the struggle of Palestine is part of a larger battle against imperialism. Today, theres a massive shift that the Internet and social media has brought abouta change in understanding the truth about Palestine being occupied by intruders coming from the four corners of earth to fulfill a fallacy of certain myth that a certain god promised the land of Palestine to the Jews. However, the frame of mind that neglected or avoided the Palestinian narrative has not been defeated completely in the Western world as long as the appreciation of the authenticity of the Palestinian narrative to the central discourse of the Palestine-Israel conflict at every available platformbe it political, academic, cultural, artistic, or in the mediais not comprehended. Dr. Effarah attempts to create a voice for Arab Americans to stand up and be counted and act as an integral part of the American society and help Americans understand the Palestinians situation as part of the Arab culture and heritage.

The Future Of The Jews

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

In The Future of the Jews, Stuart E. Eizenstat, a senior diplomat of international reputation, surveys the major geopolitical, economic, and security challenges facing the world in general, and the Jewish world and the United States in particular. These forces include the shift of power and influence from the United States and Europe to the emerging powers in Asia and Latin America; globalization and the new information age; the battle for the direction of the Muslim world; nontraditional security threats; changing demographics, which pose a particular challenge for Jews worldwide and the rise of a new anti-Semitism that seeks to delegitimize Israel as a Jewish state. He also discusses the enduring nature of and challenges to the strategic alliance between the United States and Israel. In an extensive new foreword to the paper edition, Eizenstat addresses crucial developments affecting the Jewish people since the book first appeared in 2012, including increasing tensions in the Middle East, the digital revolution and NSA revelations, declining optimism on the Arab Spring, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, the revival of anti-Semitism. In addition, he reflects on the changing identify of American Jews as revealed by the Pew Center Survey of U.S. Jews (2013). Eizenstat’s provocative analysis will be of interest to everyone concerned about the future of Jews worldwide and in Israel and the United States’ role in a world that is confronting unprecedented simultaneous, cataclysmic changes.

The 1973 Arab Israeli War

eBook Download

BOOK EXCERPT:

The October 1973 Middle East War transformed the region’s politics and had a huge impact on the international political system as a whole. Arguments about the causes, effects, and meaning of the war and about why it ran its course the way it did have played a key role in shaping the understanding of the Arab-Israeli conflict, of American policy in the Middle East, and of many other major issues. For the 50th anniversary of the war, this book grapples with these issues in an objective way by using the mass of declassified material that has recently become available.
