Delivers an EMDR model that can expand access to urgently needed mental health services while maintaining affordability This innovative handbook is the first to present EMDR Group Therapy as a pragmatic approach to trauma care that enables practitioners to scale up mental health services while ensuring cost and time efficiency. It delivers step-by-step guidance—supported by real-life case examples—for practicing this safe, effective, and culturally adaptable modality in a wide range of situations and conditions. EMDR group protocols are applicable to inpatient and outpatient settings, strangers experiencing similar or different events, families, and a wide range of ages. The book explores how and why EMDR group protocols are applicable to disaster response, addictions, schools, medical challenges, grief, families, refugees, victims of sexual violence, emergency responders and more. The text describes the theoretical underpinnings and practical applications of EMDR Group Therapy, comparing nine group protocols through the lens of the eight phases of EMDR therapy and early intervention principles. It emphasizes the concept of task sharing, allowing nonspecialist facilitators to deliver low-intensity EMDR treatment options effectively. To promote in-depth understanding, chapters provide Learning Objectives, Learned Through Experience boxes, Case Examples focusing on a variety of specific groups and problems, Discussion Questions to reinforce knowledge, and unique Pocket Guides refining protocols and derived techniques in a clear snapshot. A full Glossary of terms is also provided at the end of the book. Key Features: The first book to disseminate the principles and applications of Group EMDR Therapy Delivers the knowledge of 36 contributing EMDR experts and researchers from 11 countries Follows the eight phases of standard EMDR protocol Offers a window into EMDR practice with a broad variety of specific groups and topics Detailed cultural competence checklist for practitioners to provide care with respect for diversity Includes multiple Case Examples, Learning Objectives, Learned Through Experience boxes, figures and charts, and much more Provides Pocket Guides for a clear, easy-to-follow snapshot of group EMDR protocols

Addiction is a chronic relapsing disorder, which comprises impulsive and compulsive elements. Chronic drug consumption leads to long-term neuroadaptive changes in the brain thus result in an addictive state. However, development of addiction is a complex interaction between genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors. The resulting cellular and molecular changes mediate the transition from controlled drug use to the loss of control over drug-taking and drug-seeking. The human association studies helped us to identify some important genetic factors responsible for the susceptibility to addiction. However, social, environmental circumstances highly influence the development of addiction. Using animal models helps us to examine the underlying neuronal/molecular processes under standardised conditions. The aim of this Research Topic is to summarize our knowledge about the neuroplastic changes, which contribute to the maintenance of drug taking. Data presented in this Research Topic should also provide evidences how acute and long-term neuronal changes during withdrawal result in relapse. How different neuromodulators like endocannabinoids and endogenous opioids contribute to molecular mechanisms that mediate the transition from the controlled, occasional drug consumption to the uncontrolled, escalating drug use and seeking.

This casebook offers fifteen lively cases that illustrate a wide range of specific DSM-IV diagnoses covered in the abnormal psychology course. These cases integrate issues of racial and gender diversity and provide insight into the lives of people suffering from a variety of psychological disorders, highlighting how psychological distress is experienced and treated in real life. Each case follows a similar pattern to aid reader comprehension. An Introduction describes the problems in the person's life, or the catalyst bringing him or her into therapy. A Psychosocial History offers childhood and other relevant background data to provide a context for the disorder. The Conceptualization section offers the rationale for the diagnosis and the Treatment section then outlines the appropriate psychotherapy as well as any other treatments such as medication or group therapy. The Discussion section highlights interesting aspects of the case, presents relevant research, and examines various theoretical perspectives on treatment. Finally, the Prognosis section covers reasonable expectations of what the future might hold for this person. Critical Thinking Questions are posed at the end of each chapter. Gender and cultural diversity are highlighted among both clients and psychotherapists with important cultural issues woven throughout the cases. The cases themselves feature people from a variety of backgrounds and heritages, the impact of sociocultural factors on the experience or prevalence of a disorder is often discussed, as well as how treatment is affected when the client and therapist come from different ethnic backgrounds. This casebook also features diverse theoretical orientations that drive treatment. Treatment outcomes are diverse and realistic and span from short to long-term. Most are designed as ideal interventions, but some are influenced by economic concerns and changing models of available services. For anyone interested in abnormal psychology.

This updated and expanded volume gives new insights on ferroptosis – an iron-dependent form of non-apoptotic cell death. The collection of chapters discusses the two major pathways through which ferroptosis can occur: the extrinsic or transporter-dependent pathway and the intrinsic or enzyme-regulated pathway. Readers will gain an understanding of the multiple levels, on which this special cell death is regulated. Hence, the contributions will take a closer look at epigenetic, transcriptional, posttranscriptional and posttranslational layers. Among the described regulators and transcription factors are GPX4, ACSL4 and NFE2L2. This edited volume collects reviews related to current knowledge on the integrated molecular machinery of ferroptosis, thereby also describing how dysregulated ferroptosis is involved in human diseases.
