BOOK EXCERPT:
Modern research goes beyond disciplinary horizons for devising solutions to the society’s most pressing unsolved issues. Within the disciplinary framework, the ability to solve problems through the generation of knowledge is no more addressed from discipline-specific points of view only. However, it has become apparent that the research needed to address today’s complex problems requires the expertise of many disciplines. Multidisciplinary approach incorporates a combination of concepts and knowledge from various disciplines. These contributions enable the exchange of knowledge and experiences from diverse groups of people that can promote a holistic vision of a subject, as well as new explanatory theories. Being multidisciplinary does not mean giving up skills—it means moving into new scientific directions using one’s own special set of skills. Rather than being an end in itself, this kind of research is a way of achieving innovative goals, enriched understanding, and a synergy of new methods. The book highlights, the diverse perspectives of the researchers across disciplines from sustainable urban development to renewable energy strategies, from biodiversity conservation to equitable machine learning, internet of things, deep learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) models, eco-friendly methods, individualized education plans, and social policies that can contribute to more comprehensive and effective solutions to some of the world’s most pressing issues, while acknowledging that sustainability challenges are inherently interconnected hence the importance of inclusivity in research.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book aims to facilitate and improve development work related to all documents and information required by functional safety standards. Proof of Compliance (PoC) is important for the assessor and certification bodies when called up to confirm that the manufacturer has developed a software system according to the required safety standards. While PoC documents add functionality to the product neither for the developer nor for the customer, they do add confidence and trust to the product and ease certification, and as such are important for the product’s value. In spite of this added value, the documentation needed for PoC is often developed late in the project and in a haphazard manner. This book aims at developers, assessors, certification bodies, and purchasers of safety instrumented systems and informs the reader about the most important PoC documents. A typical PoC documentation encompasses 50 to 200 documents, several of which are named in the safety standards (e.g., 82 documents in IEC 61508:2010 series, 101 documents in EN 5012X series and 106 work products in ISO 26262:2018 series). These documents also include further references, typically one to twenty of them, and the total number of pages developed by the manufacturer varies between 2000 and 10000 pages. The book provides guidance and examples what to include in the relevant plans and documents.

BOOK EXCERPT:
This book provides comprehensive analysis of a number of groundwater issues, ranging from flow to pollution problems. Several scenarios are considered throughout, including flow in leaky, unconfined, and confined geological formations, crossover flow behavior from confined to confined, to semi-confined to unconfined and groundwater pollution in dual media. Several mathematical concepts are employed to include into the mathematical models’ complexities of the geological formation, including classical differential operators, fractional derivatives and integral operators, fractal mapping, randomness, piecewise differential, and integral operators. It suggests several new and modified models to better predict anomalous behaviours of the flow and movement of pollution within complex geological formations. Numerous mathematical techniques are employed to ensure that all suggested models are well-suited, and different techniques including analytical methods and numerical methods are used to derive exact and numerical solutions of different groundwater models. Features: Includes modified numerical and analytical methods for solving new and modified models for groundwater flow and transport Presents new flow and transform models for groundwater transport in complex geological formations Examines fractal and crossover behaviors and their mathematical formulations Mathematical Analysis of Groundwater Flow Models serves as a valuable resource for graduate and PhD students as well as researchers working within the field of groundwater modeling.
