BOOK EXCERPT:
Hosea has been charged by God with a difficult task--marry a prostitute in order to show God's people the nature and depth of his love for Israel. When Hosea goes to Israel to proclaim God's message, the prostitute God tells him to marry turns out to be his childhood friend Gomer. He finds her broken and abused, unwilling to trust Hosea or his God. But when marrying Hosea becomes her only choice, Gomer does what she's good at--she survives. Can Hosea's love for God and God's love for Israel heal Gomer's broken spirit? With her potent combination of in-depth research and masterful storytelling, Mesu Andrews brings to life a complex and fascinating biblical story of the power of love and forgiveness in the face of utter betrayal.

BOOK EXCERPT:
The English Romance in Time is a study of English romance across the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It explores romance motifs - quests and fairy mistresses, passionate heroines and rudderless boats and missing heirs - from the first emergence of the genre in French and Anglo-Norman in the twelfth century down to the early seventeenth. This is a continuous story, since the same romances that constituted the largest and most sophisticated body of secular fiction in the Middle Ages went on to enjoy a new and vibrant popularity at all social levels in black-letter prints as the pulp fiction of the Tudor age. This embedded culture was reworked for political and Reformation propaganda and for the 'writing of England', as well as providing a generous reservoir of good stories and dramatic plots. The different ways in which the same texts were read over several centuries, or the same motifs shifted meaning as understanding and usage altered, provide a revealing and sensitive measure of historical and cultural change. The book accordingly looks at those processes of change as well as at how the motifs themselves work, to offer a historical semantics of the language of romance conventions. It also looks at how politics and romance intersect - the point where romance comes true. The historicizing of the study of literature is belatedly leading to a wider recognition that the early modern world is built on medieval foundations. This book explores both the foundations and the building. Similarly, generic theory, which previously tended to operate on transhistorical assumptions, is now acknowledging that genre interacts crucially with cultural context - with changing audiences and ideologies and means of dissemination. The generation into which Spenser and Shakespeare were born was the last to be brought up on a wide range of medieval romances in their original forms, and they could therefore exploit their generic codings in new texts aimed at both elite and popular audiences. Romance may since then have lost much of its cultural centrality, but the universal appeal of these same stories has continued to fuel later works from Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress to C.S. Lewis and Tolkien.

What happens when you mix a contemporary romance with old world charm and a good dose of God's grace, hope and love? You get Treasures in Clay Vessels--a delightfully heart-warming story with a vintage soul. Nellie Parker is not your typical romance heroine. In fact, romance never played much of a part in Nellie's life at all. Orphaned as a child and disfigured as a teenager, Nellie found it easier to retreat into her own safe cocoon, keeping every relationship at arm's length. That is, until renowned biblical archaeologist, Henry J. Lewiston, arrives on the scene and turns Nellie's very secure world upside down. Treasures in Clay Vessels is a gentle story of love, acceptance and forgiveness, with a message of encouragement to believe that all things are possible in God, and every new day may just be the start of a brand new beginning. Deborah Porter FaithWriters.com Nellie Parker is a middle-aged eccentric woman with a disfigured face who tells the reader the story of her painful childhood. While on her daily trek to Tanner's Bakery Nellie runs into the town gossips who appear to be engrossed in conversation with a stranger by the dock. Nellie's first impression of him is less than complimentary until she realizes he is Henry J. Lewiston, famous Biblical Archeologist. Henry pursues Nellie in vein until he convinces her that everyone is disfigured in some way. Then one afternoon while on an excursion to the Casco Bay lighthouse with Henry she discovers a mysterious vessel. Meanwhile, Henry embarks on a mystery of his own. When Nellie receives his frantic call from London, she puts aside her own feelings and rushes to his side. What follows is a remarkable testament to God's loving plan of redemption.

BOOK EXCERPT:
When Diana King returned from botanical college after graduating, the last thing she expected was to find her father Michael arguing with an alien commander over how to repay his gambling debt. But what happened next totally blew her away. Commander Meko Roshad, upon learning that she was Michael's daughter, suddenly said she would make an excellent plaything, and her father's debt was paid in full. Then he threw her over his shoulder and kidnapped her! As soon as they were aboard his ship, Meko ordered the crew to take them back to Andara. Along the way, Diana quickly learned how much fun it could be to play in Meko’s sandbox. But outside of their playground, things weren’t quite as wonderful as they seemed. Michael King was unwilling to let some alien kidnap his only child. When the Sinkat Ambassador offered him passage to follow Diana to the Utama system, he quickly agreed. But once aboard, Michael quickly realized he was a prisoner rather than a guest. With a plot to lure Meko into attacking his ship, can Ambassador Qatrell achieve his ultimate goal of forcing the Andarian Commander to start a war?
