In 1936 an elderly Doctor Watson sits at his desk with a dictation machine, over a two week period, recounting the significant moments in his life. The expected publication of his autobiography never materialised. But in 2017 the wax cylinders containing Watson's words appeared and have at last been made available to the general public. This, then is the life of Doctor John H Watson.

After Sherlock Holmes retired to the South Downs to raise bees - and of course, study and document their habits with his usual care and precision - Dr. John Hamish Watson reopened a medical practice and continued to live at 221B Baker Street for several years. Finally however, the absence of the excitement of sharing adventures with the great detective and acting as his biographer wore down the good Doctor’s joie de vivre, and he decided to close his medical practice and retire as Holmes had done. He wrote his intentions to his cousin in Scotland, Ainsley Douglass, and received an enthusiastic response with an invitation to come and live with Ainsley and his wife Bonnie. “Our children have families of their own now, and as Bonnie and I are getting on, we find that rattling around in our big house just increases our feeling of loneliness. The tales cover the entire span of Holmes and Watson's friendship, running from 1881 to 1937.

At the age of seven years old, Julia was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. This was during a time when there was little awareness that children do contract this disease. This is her journey from being wheelchair bound to graduating from Vanderbilt University with a double major. The journey she traveled was filled with obstacles and opportunties. The obstacles included eight joint replacement surgeries (the first at age 15), a major cervical fusion surgery, and numerous other surgical procedures. The opportunities she had included marriage, being a mother, serving as an advocate for others with disabilities through volunteer activities with the Athritis Foundation at the local, state, and national levels. She also had opportunity to share her faith in Jesus Christ as she walked the road set before her. Julia believed in the “teamwork” concept of dealing with her disease. Her team was led by Jesus, with her family, friends, and medical staff rounding out her team. It was Julia’s desire that through her journey others would see the strength and hope she experienced. Most importantly she shares that the Lord gives victory amid adversity. She knew this to be true because she has traveled this road.
